Can I get some imput on a nice bullet to cast for a new Rock Island 38 super I just picked up? I use Lee molds most of the time. Purely plinking rounds, any suggestions would be appicated on reloading this round.

While not Lee moulds, we were just discussing this on another thread reference the 9mm.

Three bullets I have used are the #929 Saeco which is a 148 grain truncated point wadcutter, the #73 Hensley and Gibbs which is a 144 grain truncated point wadcutter and the Lyman 358480 which is a 133 grain semi wadcutter.

The old 356402 Lyman also shoots and feeds well in the Super ar around 125 grains./beagle

I've shot a bunch of Lee 125 rnfp with 231 powder. I sized them at 358 and 359 and they shot well. If you need a small game boolit, it would be a good one. It also comes in 6 cavity so you can cast a lot in a hurry.

Be aware that all the Lee literature and the vendor websites show the old bevel-base & short round nose-with big-flat design Lee 358-125-RF, but when you buy one you will get a mold with a flat base and a longer nose. I've been shooting them in my 9x19 Beretta 92SF with better results than I've seen from anything else. It drops from my 6-cavity at .3595-.3600.

I tried it run through a Star ".358" marked die, and it came out .359" and shot tiny groups at 45 ft. I ran some of the .359" bullets through a Lee .357" die and they came out .357" and shot not quite as well.

magma has some nice molds for the super, there all 2 cavity but you can choose from 115 grain up to about 150 grain.
I personally shoot there truncated cone 125 and there 147 grain round nose.

...........For my Witness 38 Super, the boolit design that has proven MOST accurate has been the Lyman 147gr 356637. From common recent WW alloy they actually weigh 153grs lubed.

LOL.... That's how most of us GOF's start our stories, isn't it??

If you can find an Old Lee 141 Lee TC bullet , that's the one to try. It was easy to "Make Major" with my Bar-Sto Barreled Combat Commander. That bullet and a LOAD of Unique, that would make every lawyer sit up and take notice, was a Hot super shooting load. Trouble was that gun slung cases about as far as some of the cowboy shooters, shoot Boolits. LOL.

The 147 TC Lee should be a good one for you as would the Lyman 356402.

Watch your brass, they are Expensive, nowdays.

Good Shooting,

That's the truth. People in competition seem to take these first. I've only retrieved 15% last time I shot.

I found the Lee 2 cavity mold is the flat base, long nose, the 6 cavity is small bevel base, short nose. I have both molds, with the 6 cavity being the newest.
