I have two molds for the 7x57 Mauser. A Lee #90360, and a Lyman 287308, both of which do not shoot well as the nose of each fits loosely in the bore. Having read that they will not shoot well in this condition, these molds seem to bear this statement out, as nothing I have been able to do has made either one shoot well. Does anyone else shoot lead in the 7x57 that can recommend a bullet that shoots well, preferably one that is the same diameter for most of its length? The rifle has a beautiful bore and will shoot jacketed stuff very well. I have read about bullet bumping and have made an attempt at it but it does not seem to help either one of these numbers. Any ideas or info will be appreciated. Thanks..........

The Lyman 287308 shoots very well for me in the 7mm Mausers. Try IMR 4227 in it.

Have the 130 lee, and 287641, and both are excellent shooters in my 77 Ruger 7x57.
Might suggest you try begaling top half only of those molds. Might make a difference.

What does your barrel measure? The Lee is dimensioned for more recently produced barrels and the Lyman may be also if it is of fairly recent manufacture. Older 7 mm barrels tend to have somewhat larger diameters for both the groove and bore diameters. The older Lyman & Ideal molds were cut larger to fit them. There was a Loverin design for the 7 mm (287405 - 150 grain) but Lyman, in their infinite wisdom, dropped the design from production quite a while back. The 287346 might work if you can find one. It has a relatively short nose section that should be more forgiving.

Beagling the 287308 has worked well for me in a RRB and in a Mauser 7x57. Before you buy, Beagle. (The three Bs)
