Looking for suggestions for a 44 mold that will work smooth in a Marlin 1894.
Think I would prefer PB maybe BB dont like the idea of monkying with GCs.
Casting with WW would like something like 240-270gr.
Prefer a larger Meplat I think primarly use on deer and hopefully some day hogs.
My Marlin slugs .432 so something that drops .433-434 I think.

I am fairly new to casting so dont know whats available been useing Lee molds but dont see anything in there line up which matches up with my ideas.

Been kinda looking thru the LBT sight but dont know really what I want in regards to having a mold designed see as I dont know what I want.

Thanks for looking and any suggestions.

I like the Lee 200RNFP and 18g of 2400 for both my Marlin and my Winchester Trapper in .44 mag. My Marlin requires an OAL of 1.600". Velocity is around 1500 fps from both rifles. This mould design is available in both a 2C and a 6C mould, and are quite inexpensive.

I've had good luck with LYMAN 429667 and RANCH DOG TLC 432 265, both round nose/flat points. There's a NIGHT OWL ENTERPRISES clone of various RANCH DOG designs in the group buy sections.

Go to lasc.us and read Glenn Fryxell's excellent articles on MARLIN 1894 and other topics. (If I ever meet him, I'll buy the meal. Glenn is THE MAN on cast boolits!) He will save you a lot of time and a ton of money.

I recommend an RNFP or TC style. Both feed flawlessly in my gun.

Keith style semi wadcutters like the H&G 503 and 429421 do not feed well in my gun. Some guns seem to handle them well and others don't. Once in the chamber they shoot just fine but getting them there can be a chore!

I have modified my gun for longer OAL and also modified the carrier to better handle the SWC but still get hang ups. Some guns aren't so picky but if you are leaning to SWC's I suggest trying some before buying a mould.

The mod's resulted in even better (smoother) feeding of RNFP and TC's so not time wasted but I still get too frequent hang ups with SWC's for my liking.

Lyman 429215 GC Keith. My Marlin 1894 loves this boolit.

429215 is a Thompson design, not Keith.

I use both the Lyman 429667 and the Lyman 429640. The 640 is very hard to find but it is THE 44 Mag./ 444 Marlin bullet.

I've had the same experience with swc designs as Longbow. I've also had feeding problems with large meplat boolits in my Marlin. My Winchester Trapper is no where near as finicky feeding either style boolits as my Marlin.

In my earlier post, I suggested the Lee 200RNFP. I neglected to remember you were looking for a heavier boolit. My Lee 200RNFP moulds drop at 212 to 214g from wheel weight alloy that has a Bhn of 11.
Another design that feeds real well in my Marlin and Winchester is the Lyman 429640 Devastator at OAL 1.700.

Ballisti-Cast number 644gc same as H&G #44gc

Looks like the Speer JSP 44mag. part # 4457 feed great in a Marlin Model 94.

Rem700:

Lyman 429667 weighs just about 250grs. with Lyman #2, drops from my mold at 0.4315, large meplat with rounded countour, no gas check, not bevel based.
