I have an Ar from way back before prices went crazy.
I have plenty LC brass ready to roll. Thinking about RCBS Bullet Mould 22-055-SP
I have seen a few threads here and some have had good luck with cast but the lude sticks out the top pf the bullet in the pics.
Will the RCBS Bullet Mould 22-055-SP have the lube below the base mouth{not showing} If so it is ok thanks in advance kevin

The 223 case has a very short neck so it's probably unlikely. It doesn't hurt much if you're careful handing your rounds as to not pick up dirt and not to get lube on other things. Then again you can use the harder lubes too that you heat to apply.

The throat on my RRA AR 15 will not allow the RCBS 22-055 SP to be seated out far enough expose the lube groove, I have to seat to the top of the crimp groove, that puts the gas check in the boiler room so I use a dacron filler to protect the exposed boolit

what I want is no expossed lube same as the 55fmj i shoot just lead and slower more fun to shoot.
I have a 16 year old son who would shoot what ever ya give him from my Ruger BearCat to what ever ya let him
In the past pre 2005 I would just hand load a real 5.56 can pop it open and blow the whole can that day. Easy to carry pop open and dig in. But $$ are now a factor so looking for a cheaper way.
Or 2 cans since I have 2 guns yes that sounds crazy

That boolit fits perfect in my AR like it was made for it. Shoots well if not pushed too hard.

Sounds like your RRA has a 223 chamber, not a 5.56 chamber. My Colt has the 5.56 chamber and the magazine limits how far out my bullet seats, which is it won't even let it get close to the throat.

you can always lube the groove above the gas check and not the regular one.

I use the old 224450 in my AR for light plinking loads. Loaded rounds look pretty much like a 55 fmj. These molds come up for sale now and then.

I'm guessing that you saw my pictures of some 225415s with both lube grooves showing above the brass & loaded with red lube. Those boolits were loaded very far out for use in a single shot rifle with a long throat. Only about 2/3 of a diameter of the boolit was inside the case neck. I would not recommend that configuration for use in an auto loader.

I have also loaded that round with just one lube groove showing. When I did that, I only lubed the groove that was inside the case neck. I had good results, but the accuracy in the long throated gun was not quite as good.

RRA uses a 223 wylde chamber which is a modified of the 556 chamber but the throat diameter is .2240". It's obviously not cast boolit friendly.

I would call this cast boolit friendly!!!!

My RRA with Wylde chamber and RCBS 22-055 @ 100 yards
15 rounds, the first from a clean/cold barrel in indicated by the arrow.

And another shot on the same day>

And a load that it didn't like(1 grain more of the same powder)

I know all about that. I was right, it wasn't a 5.56 Nato chamber, that explains it.
