Is there a difference in the compounds necessary for revolver bullets at say 1000fps over a velocity of say 1300fps assuming WW cast bullets weighing 280 grs in 45 LC?
I guess I'm not assuming anything this is the weight I have settled on in the 45LC.

Std NRA formula 50/50 alox/beeswax is a great place to start. Works just fine over a wide range of
velocities, should be fine at the low velocities that you are talking about. If you try
to work up to 2000 fps or more, you may need to look for another lube.

Thompson's Blue Angel, Lar's Carnauba Red, Bullshop Speed Green.

I use all of them with loads from .32 Long @ 600 fps to .30 and .35 cal @ 2300+ fps and everything in between. Very few problems so far.

you probley not notice any differance in any lube at the vel. between 1000 fps and 1300 fps if your lube works at 1000 fps it'll work at 1300. if it don't work at 1300 it probley won't work at 600. But that's just my opinion, worth excatly what ya paid for it. Dennis

I use Bullshop Speed green in all of my guns, and get absolutely NO leading.

If you run higher pressures, NRA lube is better at the higher velocities it produces. I find I do not get significant smoke from NRA lube when fired in high pressure .357 loads at 1300 fps. I get incredible smoke when I shoot NRA lube in .38 Specials at 800 fps.

I think most handgun boolits are over lubed. When boolit fits properly very little lube is needed especially for light loads. I read a lot of people bash some of Lees handgun boolits for not carrying enough lube. I have had no problems with any of their boolit designs as far as lube goes. Before I found Felix lube I made all kinds of concoctions and most worked pretty well. I eventually mixed them all together and added some Felix polymer and soap. This stuff works good in all my handgun loads but is somewhat smoky. There is prolly everything resembling greese or wax that was at my place in this lube. Again as long as boolit fits well, a very thin coat of alox ( or JPW)will suffice in most all hangun loads.

I will second the NRA lube if you can stand the smoke.

Speed Green, Carnuba Red, Blue Angel all work well and Speed Green does not need a heater if your in a warmer climate than where it made ( LOL)

The difference between 1000 fps and 1300 fps is not big enough to cause a problem, maybe!

Each gun is a rule unto itself: so load shoot and see what happens and adjust as needed!

Never any leading issues using Javalina or Lyman, but the smoke...

I switched over to White label BAC and the results are dramatic.

Mind you, magnum rounds were never smoky, just the light stuff, but the BAC reduced it to a non issue for me.

On the plus side, BAC is good up to rifle velocity. I have a 7.62x39 150g cast load I can't wait to try it in.

Price is right too. :)

50/50 bees wax and Wally world lithium car grease ahs been good to me in everything from target loads to 2000 fps rifle loads. Easy to make and works through a ssizer.

I think there's more "voodoo" regarding bullet lube than any other part of casting. I like John Linebaugh's quip "Anything, as long as it's soft and gooie. If it resembles a crayon, that's all it's good for" Here's some good reading: http://www.lasc.us/FryxellLubeCastBullets.htm
