I will be casting lee c358158 swc boolits for a contender,should I size them .357,or .358,not all will have gas checks.thanks, edsmith

I do not have the barrel yet,I assume it is .357,been looking to see just what the bore is,but so far no luck.it will be a g2 contender barrel. ed

Generally I'd say 358. This is one case where bigger is better. I believe most people go 358 in 38/357 but there is no wahy to know for sure until you slug the barrel and or try it. You could possibly even need to go with .359 but probably not. You may be able to shoot as cast. What are you doing for lube?

I tumble lube with alox,I think you are right about going .358,if it don't work,I can always go .357,lee sizers are cheap.thanks

I also pan lube.

I've found in my .357s the biggest diameter bullet that will chamber easy is usually the most accurate. Nothing less than .360 so far for me, some as cast .361 tumble lubed shoot great.

No matter what we suggest, you will end up sizing for what the gun likes. Closed breech guns are easier, and .358 will more than likely work well. I have a couple of revolvers though that have chamber throats that are .358, and just thrive on .357 diameter cast boolits, plain based, or GC. Go figure. Groups open up very noticeably if I size any larger, and surprisingly, I get no leading with the smaller diameter. Just proves that guns can be individuals!
