The B/C for the 500-F is .278

The 500 3R is .443

Use the ballistic calculator here:

thanks skipper; i was looking for balistic charts . this is way better, and yes i've
got it bookmarked. 9 in diff at 300 yd with a mv of 1300. the benifits of the pointed
one would show up better at longer ranges. this is paper #s. now next question,
accuracy between the two???
thanks again

I've used the 457-500-f with my .458 win mag.....not sure how well it will perform with holy black but with smokeless it works really well. the 459-500-3R may be the better choice for BPC....I have not tried one but the reviews online seem somewhat good.

now for the rest of the story. what i realy want is a 300gr or thereabouts
44 cal boolit with good BC. there is no suchthing in 44 cal so i will have to modify
a mould. a 325 gr spitz puts the BC at .414. i sure like this calculater sight.
thanks for the help.jb

:?::?: Which 44 caliber are you talking about the original 44's , ie 44-77,43 spanish egyptian etc, or the 44's of handgun fame?
There's plenty of offering's in the real 44's , and a few in the handgun 44's.
The Lee .459 3r bullet is a pretty fair bullet to 4-500 yds beyond that it can have some stability problems. But sizing it down to fit either of the 44's would be a joke.

Try a custom mold maker, Brooks,Old West, etc to get something built.

I have the 500-F. I haven't really compared the drop to other bullets I have. I will say that I don't care for it in my BPCR gun because the lube grooves are somewhat shallow and don't hold as much lube as I'd like. I have used it in my Gibbs 45-70 (converted Enfield) with smokeless powder. I had to load them one at a time because the loaded round was too long for the magazine. It shot fine, I just have other bullet designs that I prefer and/or are plain based. At the velocities I am shooting, I don't usually need the gas check.

There are some 44 boolits with very good BC in common use. They are for 11mm/43 cal rifles.
They are available from Lyman and have been for a very long time, also RCBS has two and I imagine others too. These will drop somewhere about .439" to .446" if I am remembering correctly. Something on that order may work for you.

whats amater with u guys, can't u read minds. sorry my bad. i talking about
44 mag in a carbine . .430 dia. i think i can make a cutter to modify the lee
429-240-2R to a 325 gr spitz. i already have the 6C mould. i already have modifyed
a 358 mould and based on that experiance should be a piece of cake.
thanks everybody
