I know that various groups are petitioning that lead be 'BANNED'. How much of this is truly environmental is surely up for debate... Most recently I'm hearing of lead bans in wheel weights in 2010--is this true?!

What about countering with a few petitions of our own? Surely the NRA and GOA would be willing to help, right?

Don't know the date but lead WW will soon be a thing of the past here in Canada. I suspect it is a result of California legislation banning lead WW. Once a juridisction the size of California makes the move it will flow to the rest as a matter of economics.

I just googled the phrase 'stop lead ban' and apparantly the environmental movement is also affecting ATV riders and motocross folks. There seems to be a few movements out there to push back. I think if we could organize with them--you help us, we help you--we could leverage numbers. I did just email the GOA to ask what they are doing to help bullet casters--frankly not sure what to expect there. I'm not looking to be a 'website activist' but if a grass roots movement will keep us in casting, I'm all for it... Thoughts?

Im dang sure it can be found in the ground, just sitting there for millions of years.

Until the Libs came a long to dig it all up and put it somewhere safe.

At your expense.

Did anyone check if the ban applies to all vehicles or are there exceptions ?
Here in germany , buses, trucks or farm vehicles are exempt from the lead ban and they have the big weights on Žem.

Lead weighs more than zinc, so less is needed for WW.

I just have to ask, what will be used for ammo when lead is banned? I'm sure they'll allow it for military and LEO use, of course.

What did you say? What weighs more, a pound of feathers or a pound of rocks?

Don't blame Kalif. Europe has banned lead ww for almost 10trs. That is where Kalif. got the idea. It sucks, get what you can now, it will be nation wide in 10yrs is my bet. Washington & Oregon are following in 2011.:-P ZInc cores for jacketed ammo will be next. Kalif. has already banned lead core ammo for hunting on public land in some areas of the state, soon to be the entire state shortly.

I've been told that an ounce of gold weighs more than an ounce of water.

Gold is very dense. It sinks in water. ;-)

Also, gold is measured in Troy ounces, which actually are heavier. [smilie=p:

But they ain't got more guns, shooters. They are the lion's share of the auto industry's business for now and as a result influence that industry with every stupid whim that the liberal legislation can pass. The 'no lead' in hunting ammo will stop at the socialistic border of that state.
Just look at the way 'same sex marriage' has been trying to get into the rest of the country. Yeah, I know, it's not exactly the same but it is brought to the legislative bodies by these liberal/progressive type.
RANT OVER.

The manager of one of the tire stores, where I get weights, mentioned that there may be a problem with getting steel or zinc weights thin enough to fit between the inside of a rim and the brake caliper, on the kinds of wheels that require an inside-mounted weight. He said that the weights can be only so long before the wheel won't balance properly.

Just one more example of the unintended consequences of a liberal agenda as it tries to thwart reality.
