I finally got around to posting the pictures of the grips I made for my 1911. So, how did I do for my first time?

Sweeeet! Now that you have practiced, I'd let you make me a set.

OK, so much for attempted humor. What is the wood you used?

What is the wood you used?

Pecan. I treated the wood with a truly amazing product called Velvet Oil, it hardens, protects, and seals all in one. So, far the grips have withstood about 300rds of ammo.

VERY nice-looking, and I suspect they're quite comfortable too.

A lot of my side iron wears neoprene, but there is something lacking with that compared to good wood on ordnance steel.

Good stuff...the best stuff is homemade stuff tweaked for your own fit!

Looks great!!!

Good job man. Looks great.

The 625-2 round butt in my avatar wares a set of home made grips of kingwood
with truoil finish.

Looks good.
Where did you get the pecan wood and the velvet oil?

I got the wood from a tree on my own property. The Velvet Oil I bought locally, but I am sure you could order it online, it is somewhat expensive, but only one coat is required/recommended. If you put more then two coats on, the stuff never dries.

A very nice job in a seldom used wood. And custom fit to boot. Be proud, you did a nice job!

You did a very nice job..very nice indeed.

I much prefer slab grips on on the 1911 and the panels to come down flush with the bottom of the frame. But those are just styling preferences.
