Has anyone here have this mold? Lyman 44 cal. 240gr. RFN BN#429667. I was interested in how it would shoot in a 44 mag. It looks like a good deer hunting bullet with its flat nose.

I have it in a 4C. It shoots only so-so in all my guns. There are lots better designs out there like 429421, 429215, RCBS 250K,RCBS 240swc. The 429667 was designed to work in lever action rifles and is called a "Cowboy" style. It has a bevel type base, which I believe does not lend itself to accuracy, and it does not have a paper cutting type front shoulder. It does feed ok in my Marlin and Winnie Trapper carbines, and that's what it was designed to do.

Thanks for the info. I am not a fan of bevel based boolits. I have been buying my 240 gr SWC GC. I did cast 15 yrs. ago but I'm going to start again and want to get a good 44 cal. mold. I used to cast the 429421 and it was very accurate in my Redhawk.

I have a DC and as it is, it's not great. Mine cast right at .429" when I received it. I have had the bevel base removed and the bands enlarged to .433" and that seems to help some but I really haven't had time to test it thoroughly. Shoots all right in the SBH but the M94 .44 Mag is what I want to use it in and need to test that yet./beagle

That 429421 would still be a good choice. The RCBS equivalent would also be good but maybe a touch smaller. You probably don't need the gas-checked version, but it will let you get away with softer alloys than you could use without leading otherwise. Depends what you want to do. The Lee C-430-310-RF has also been highly recommended on here as a hunting boolit.

I bought some 300gr RF GC .430. In my Dan Wesson, it shot 3 inches high at 25yds with the rear sight turned all the down far as it would go. Good groups but high. Being that DW isn't no longer made I don't think I could get a higher front sight for it. I developed a load for this 300gr bullet around 1250fps because we are having more bear activity. I feel more confortable with this load hiking along the river. The revolver has the 5"brl. 4"rifeling the last inch has the muzzle brake system. I haven't tried this load in my other 44's, they have longer brls. I guess I'll get the 429421 or the Lee 240SWC 6 cav.
