Though my quest for a mature buck this year has not yet been realized, at least I’m bringing home some meat. 10 Nov I was slipping through the woods in a light rain when a big sow hog wandered in front of me. I busted her in the shoulder with my Ruger M77 Hawkeye .358 win and oddly enough, she didn’t even flinch, but took off on a dead run. Didn’t last long though as I found the pig piled up in a seasonal creek 40 yards away. An hour and a half later I passed on a doe and fawn. It’s antlers I want dang it! The next evening I finally broke down. After passing up does all fall, I went ahead and bagged one just before dark. Shot just behind the shoulders, she ran 70 yards with a good blood trail. Last Saturday I finally got a buck, but not the biggun I’m looking for. I shot a spike behind the shoulders that ran about 40 yards. I stayed in my tree and had a big 8 pt come up behind me 30 minutes later, but I couldn’t get a good shot at him (Grrr!). I still have a buck tag to fill, so there’s still hope for a big one.

245 gn Saeco #352 (.359” sizer)
12.5 BHN
38.0 gns H4895
Glennhills Green lube
Velocity: 2,010 fps
Bullets were seated to lightly engage rifling.

As I type this I have venison polish sausage on the smoker. Hmmmm delicious!

Congratulations.

Of course you used the proper chambering. It has been rumored to be a good hunting round!

Now if only we could get you away from those Rugers! (Poke at Mark)

All were pass throughs of course. Lung destruction was massive as usual. The hog wound was a little odd. The entrance hole (entered middle of the shoulder blade and exited behind the opposite shoulder) was about 2 inches long and nearly 1/2 an inch wide. When I found the hog it had actually blown lung matter on the bank from this gapping hole before it died. I've never seen that kind entrance wound before.

Given the BHN of 12.5 you listed, were those boolits ACWW or ???
I'm using the same boolit, but paper patched in my Whelen, at about 2600 fps. Haven't shot anything with it yet, still messing with different alloys.

You may want to slow those down, before shooting a critter with them. You would do lots more damage than you care for.

I'm not sure of the alloy. I bought them from Glennhills to try out before buying the mould. I'm assuming ACWW.

my most accurate has come at 49 grs of rl-19.
have not gotten it across the chrono or forgot to write it down. [more likely]

You may be right, although I've been using 220gr Nosler Partitions at the same velocity (2600 fps) and they work great. I figure the nose portion of a Partition is considerably softer than ACWW or even 50/50 WW/pure.
