My son (11) shot this gobbler Friday evening at our lease in North Texas. He made a nice shot - 60 yards through brush with my .30-30 and hit the bird right where I told him to - right at the base of the neck above the breast meat

Good looking bird. The dang things are so plentiful here that they are a nuisance during deer season. I had five startle the dickens out of me opening day this year. :-P

We have all seen these game shots before. But there is just something different about these first animal pictures. The smille is just a shade brighter, the eyes show pure glee...I took my 82 year old father deer hunting this year, first time he has been hunting in 20 years. He filled his tag. He's killed plenty in the past, but he still had that bright smile like it was his first...

A hearty congratualtions to your son...

Enjoy the pride in your sons accomplishment!

I still have a picture of my boy's first bird on my desk. That's a proud moment for both of you. And a nice bird to boot.

I've been taking my boys (he has a twin brother too) hunting with me now since they were 7. This was the first time one of them had the opportunity to shoot something.

You are right - that smile and glow in the eyes was infectious. He was very happy and excited. I think we have another lifetime hunter:)

congrats on a nice first bird. only thing bothers me is the line-"60 yds through the brush". still a nice bird, enjoy the experience, bubba.

I wish rifles were allowed here for turkey. Shotgun only in NC....

Shotgun only during the spring in Texas too. Rifles are allowed during deer season.

He had a clear shot and the bird was clearly identifiable. What I intended to convey was the bird was not right out in the open.

Nice bird ! Are you going to do a fan mount ? I wanted to get a full mount of one in full strut but did'nt have the cash. You never forget your first gobbler. FB

I saved the tail and the beard for him. I was going to try and do a simple fan mount for him when I get time.
