...Would you consider sending one by US Mail? I would be willing to pay extra if you would. For the past year and a half, UPS has tried to destroy the packages sent to my address. I just don't think a mould could survive that kind of treatment.

tell you guys something that havent participated in a group buy yet. BUY AT LEAST 2! if the bullet shoots in your gun keep in mind that it can never be replaced and although the lee 6 cavity molds are much better then the two they do wear out and get damaged and if for some reason the bullet doesnt shoot in your gun there allways easy to get rid of to guys that messed up and only ordered one!

Okay, I'm in for a mold.
Now do I buy the SP 101 in 32 H&R or the single six??

I'm kind of confused with all the group buys going on all at once. Plus it's hitting my play money kind of hard to get all the ones I want(need?)

Thanks Sean for running this. I did a few group buys back when, but I'm way too busy now to even think about one.

Dale53
05-31-2006, 04:05 PM
Lar45;
I have had a single six and it was just fine (got rid of it when S&W came out with the 631 and the 16-4). I still have both of the Smiths' but the Ruger SP101 kept calling to me.

The SP101 has a TERRIBLE trigger pull. The bright side is it is easy to correct. Brownell's has a Wolf spring kit that REALLY reduces the trigger pull. A little bit of stoning and you are "home free".

I now have a VERY nice piece. I had it to the range, today, and the revolver did quite well. I haven't been shooting pistol for a while and my scores sure show it. My best was a 92 at 25 yards (two handed). However, I'll be back in the swing before long.

The SP101 has one REAL shortcoming. The adjustable sights are only adjustable for windage. These fine revolvers deserve REAL adjustable sights. The 120 gr bullets shoot entirely too high with the original sights. The 100 gr (pretty much the standard for the caliber) shoot in the 10 ring with the six o'clock hold. I have not shot any of those icky jacketed things, so can't help you there. The SP101's front sight can be replaced but Ruger does not offer any of different heights. Of course, if you replace a sight to work well with 120 gr bullets then it won't be right for 100 gr bullets.

The single six was made with a good, fully adjustable rear sight but they may or may not list them at this time.

lar45- I've got two single-sixes, mine is what the CAS-folks sometimes call a 'baby Vaquero' with fixed sights 4 5/8"bbl, the other I recently inherited from Dad, has adjustable w 6 1/2"bbl. both like my 311252's & Meister's 94 gr RNFP and hit POA w/ a 6 o'clock hold, using 2.5 gr Red Dot. I haven't tried either w/ heavier bullets yet. I have to agree w/ Dale53, my newer SP 101, (22LR), has an awful trigger pull; however my older one, (.357) was just fine. I think that it boils down to an SA or DA decision.

Sean,
Payment went out today. Thanks for accepting such a late order! As I said I just picked up a little Savage 23 in .32-20 day before yesterday and remembered this group buy. Just use my extra as you see fit. That sounds like a great idea to send some to support the site. I wouldn't mind if that was done with all group buys. I pay (dearly) for cable TV every darn month and other than a couple channels, get NOTHING in return. Just the opposite here, we pay little or nothing and get so much in return.

What top punch(es) are being used for this boolit?

Generally speaking, is there any good reference as to what TPs are good for what boolits (besides the literature/websites of Lyman &RCBS)? I have a hard time going between the Lyman/RCBS TPs and the Lyman/RCBS/Lee/GB molds.

I know lots here use the Lee contraptions that don't need TPs, but I don't.

Took me a minute or so to figure out what "TP" means[smilie=1:. At any rate, you just need a flat top punch slightly smaller than the sizing die I.D. I have a sizing die for my RCBS lube/sizer and my Star lube/sizer. My Star gets the bulk of the business:).

I have loaded up about all bullets that I had cast. I had better get busy and cast some more. I should just cast up a few thousand, say five or so, and then relax...

If we do it again id like to see a closer copy of the rcbs bullet as it still outshoots the group buy bullet in my 32s. Dont know what it is about that rcbs bullet but they lucked into something right in its design. Between that one and the lbt lfngc 120 i could live with those two bullets in every .32 i own. Throw in the ballistic cast 105 swc too.

Hey Lloyd,

If you get a chance, drop 45 2.1 a PM with your thoughts re the changes to make it a little closer to the RCBS SWC, maybe we can get him to do a drawing.

Then we can open the buy and let it run for 60 days (MAX!) and place the order.

This should give everyone time to get funds together.

Looks like we could do 8 from just the few of us, I'm sure more people would sign up if it's posted as a new GB.

Maybe we will have these before it snows again ;)

ive actually got two 32 bullets id like to see copyed One is the rcbs and the other is a ballistic cast 105 swc and if anything is even consistantly more accurate. Like i said if a honcho steps up id be glad to send samples. One thing a guy has to keep in mind with a deal like this is that any change in a bullet can cause big differnces in accuracy. These two bullets shoot extreamly well in every 32 ive tried them in and if something is changed it can change everything. The existing group buy bullet is a neat bullet. It isnt an exact copy of the rcbs and in my experiences with it it isnt as accurate. Ive got some 1.5 inch groups at 25 with it and it seems to fly well out far but it doesnt give me the one hole accuracy the other two bullets do. Now the problem with copying a bullet is two fold. The designer you pick is an individual just like you and I and has ideas of his own as to what makes a bullet good and this can cause small changes in designs some good some bad. Just measureing a little bullet and trying to copy it exactly is pretty tough. If you look at verals molds which are lathe cut there are suble variations in a couple of the molds i have that were for the same bullet made a couple years apart and it can and does effect the bullet. Another problem is lee themselves. Ive talked to a couple of the honchos here and theyve had problems with lee themselves changing what the honcho has designed. Im a big fan of the 32 and it I could get real copys of both of these id be in for two or three of each. There that good of bullets. While im dreaming the lbt 120 lfngc is another one that has shot extreamly well in every 32 ive tried it in. There is a good example that bullet shoots like a rifle in my handguns and the 115 plain based version has been pretty dismal. About nothing is differnt but the gas check shank!

Lloyd is quite right on this. My copy of the RCBS 32 SWC is a stinker and doesn't shoot well at all. I would be interested in seeing what his looks like. LEE does indeed change things on the drawings that were sent in. Most of the time when they do cut one to the actual specs, it turns out to be a very good boolit for us. When they don't, it usually is a poor one. I've searched out several places and getting a mold cut to actual specs to our design is very hard to do.

Dale53
07-10-2007, 10:06 AM
I already have both - the .314" 120 GB and the .314" 100 gr Keith. both are excellent bullets but the Keith shoots extremely well in my S&W 16-4 with .32 S&W L cases and 2.8 grs of Win 231. This is a very accurate load in my revolver (well under an inch at 25 yards). It also seems to work well with "magnum" loads with WC 820. The Keith is now my "go to" bullet for the .32's. I size this bullet to .313" with my Star lube sizer.

I'm relatively new to this forum and have never participated in a group mold buy. Does the person who takes all the responsibility for ordering and shipping the molds (the Honcho) receive any benefit from all that work or do they just do it because they are public spirited and willing to help other shooters? There is nothing wrong with volunteering and donating time just to help others of course but if nobody is available and willing to do it perhaps some other ideas should be considered. What if the person who does all the work organizing and completing the group buy received one of the molds at no cost for his effort. For a group buy with 25 buyers it would only be two or three bucks extra per person to do this. I would willingly pay a few extra bucks if it would move a group buy along at a faster pace or make it happen when no one volunteers to head up the effort.
And I'll bet finding someone to act as the Honcho would be much less of a problem. If this is an idea that has already been proposed, considered, and rejected I apologize for bringing it up again.

Well someone had to post this to the top again.

Anyone willing to Honcho this ?

I think everyone here is ready to get this going. :Fire:

I expect to re-run all the Keith moulds. But not until Lee gets caught up a bit more. I'd say next year, maybe.

By next year do you mean soon after the first of the year, say January 08? I'm amazed that this thread has gone on for 9 pages and seemingly there is a lot of interest in a .32 mold but nothing is happening. Is this common for group buys?

I thought it was going to be for a 120 grainer RF nose?

Balhincher,
Most GB's go rapidly-too rapidly as I miss a whole bunch of them.
HOWEVER, right now we are in a sort of stand down on LEE group buys due to them over extending their manufacturing capability to the point where we were/are running 6 or so months behind schedule.
They also had developed a real bad quality control problem.
This does seem to be remedying itself at this time.
They seem to be getting caught up and the quality is better than it ever was-that's a personal evaluation on that point.
It will be after the first of the year I think before LEE will be running close to their old schedule.
Read about some of the group buys being delivered and go back and research when they started and you will see what I am writing about.
Also check out the discussion as it pertains to quality and etc.

Me too - I have a couple of LBT styles that work very well in 32-20 and 32 H&R, but the posts on this have me intrigued.

Are there any of these molds left? I am new to this forum, and a new 32 mag shooter. I have a Saeco 95 swc, but only single cavity, and the Lee 100 rn. I haven't tried the Saeco yet, although it makes a nice looking bullit. The Lee was a pleasant surprise, as I shot a 2" 25 yd group with my 4" Taurus 741.

there long gone. there was some noise about a new run of a simualar bullet a while back but no one stepped up to honcho it so it died. If you want to be a honcho im sure it could be done and youd end up with a free mold out of it.

Thanks for the response. I think I will wait to see how the Saeco 95 swc works out, even though it is slow-single cavity. I also have access to a lee 90swcTL that I will work with for a bit.

Should this thread really be a sticky?

The title implies that orders are being taken, but that appears not to be the case. By the way, I would certainly be interested, if anyone wanted to Honcho this one.
