I went to a gun show today and traded a pistol for a new in the box 1894C. I cycled some various dummy rounds through the gun without a problem but was wondering if anybody has a favorite mold for theirs. This will mainly be used for plinking but I'd like to cook up a good load for small to medium game.

I like the Yankee 158gr HP in mine.
My shoots just about what ever I put in it good.
Hope you like it, I like mine!

The Yankee mold Jr. is speaking of is the Keith/Thompson design with the dual crimp groove. Nothing special we just happen to have it in a Yankee mold combo that will throw HP or solid point.
The Lyman mold is the same boolit.

For plinking, it is hard to beat 6 grains of Universal in a mag case with 125 Lee round nose flat point in my rifle. Six cavity mold will drop a lot of boolits in a hurry. I also water drop them.

I have yet to shoot this at 100 on paper, but it will knock the rams down at 100 meters. At 50 meters, it shoots small groups.

Lee 125 gr RF or 158 RF Both feed good and shoot good too.

The .360-180-RF in its various group buy configurations is top notch in the 1894C they are all very similar and I can't recall anyone ever saying they couldn't get one to shoot. I've personally used Glenn Larson's design in a mold from the first run and the current NOE design. I've also had great results with a SAECO #353, a 180 grain RNFP plain base. You need to modify the cartridge stop in the rifle to feed the longer rounds if you're going to load the SAECO in magnum cases. It's an easy job:

I have a RCBS 38-158-CM HP that gets a lot of use in .357 cases. For .38s, I use the 358439. YOu got agreat rifle there./beagle

I use the LBT 185 with great results in both case lengths . With and without gas checks it give great accuracy when given an appropriate powder charge .

The 1894c works well with almost anything you put in it. The 180 grain boolits help it a lot and you might want to try larger diameter in cast for increased accuracy. Glenn Fryxell's article on 1894s at lasc.us has a lot of good data AND there's a forum on 1894s at marlinowners.com....there are some real fans of the 357 MARLINS over there!

I like 5.0 of TITEGROUP with either a 158 or 180 grain round nose/flat point in 357 brass for ammo used in the rifle or my revolvers. The Cowboy Action loads from Hogdgen are a good place to start for plinking/small game loads.
