View Full Version : A 360 grain .461 .45 Group Buy Starts Here!

Catshooter
05-14-2006, 08:01 PM
This boolit is based on the discussion in Grumble's thread, a 350 to 360 grain .45 cal slug cut in a six cavity Lee for a proposed .461 diameter. This should fit all .45-70's and can be sized down for .45 Colt/.454 Casull etc. Plain base. Lube grooves for smokeless or Black powder. Meplat sized to still have one and yet feed through repeaters.

I just hold this buy open until we get 25, then issue a last call thread, wait two weeks for straglers, then order up.

Price is $58 total.

The same rules apply here as I posted in the .45 Colt Keith GB.

Please PM me for address to mail your check to.

Please tell me which boolit you want as I am honchoing more that one group buy at a time.

45 .21, post your drawing here!

First check arrived today, 5/18.

..................Naw, this is just a little wimp 45 cal rifle boolit we can get into a Lee 6 cavity set of blocks:bigsmyl2: You can make a bunch of'em like right now.

I also think a secondary reason is (as mentioned in the original post) so some of these goombah 45 cal peestol shoosters may further abuse themselves and excite and delight onlookers at the range. Of course I could be wrong about that[smilie=w:

It'd actually be a very nice boolit for those who'd like to stuff a bit more IMR3031 or 4064 under the slug in their Marlin 95's. It's kind of in the yeoman weight range for the 45-70. If the 405 is to the 45-70 what the 150gr is to the 30-06, then this one would be like a 130gr.

Heck I'm in already. Cast 6 at a time and it's a good looking slug to boot.

Gentlemen,

We now have funds for 18 moulds. This buy has been open for about six weeks. I haven't received any $ for about two weeks.

Do you want to continue to wait, hold the buy open? Or do you want to split the $100 set up fee between the 17 of us. That would be an additional $6 for each of us.

I bow to your will.

Considering Lee's recently re-proven inability to make a mold up to specs, do you suppose it would be a good idea to spec the diameter up to .464, to be sure we get a bullet that is within thier tolerences? And our acceptance?

Ric-
From the GBs i've been involved with, i've kept track of the actual versus spec'd diameters. Usually LEE shortchanges us about 0.0008" to about 0.0015" in diameter. If we want a full 0.461", we should spec at 0.462" to 0.463". All 4570 chambers i've tested will take a loaded 0.462" boolit, but only a couple would take the 0.463". The bands are thinner on this boolit, so 0.463" would be ok sized down to 0.458" or so. Pistol users would suffer somewhat.

We're the the NORTH end of the state (NOT the "bay" BTW), a totally different California than points south, and that has been trying to break off from the rest of Kalifornia for decades.
