View Full Version : 6.5 carcano boolit suggestion

Hey all, I am going to start casting for my 91 Carcano next month, and wanted to know what the best mould was in general for the Carcano. I have read on the forums about the "Cruise Missile" would that be the way to go? I have not slugged the bore yet, but I figure it follows the popular over sized trend.

I currently shoot an over sized Lyman 266469 that casts at .269 instead of the advertised .264 with fairly good success. My supply of these is limited as they were cast from a mold that was loaned to me. After my supply of these becomes low I'm going to be ordering an RCBS 270-150-SP and size them down to .269 as well. The big thing to keep in mind is that the 6.5x52 is suppose to be .268", anything you try to feed it from the .264 verioty will have problems with both leading and poor accuracy

What size does the 270-150-SP cast at? Is it the .278?

Yes that is what it is listed to drop at. It looks to have deep a deep enough lube groove as to not worry about sizing it down .008

Babore is working on a mold right now. Hopefully he will have it out soon.
Mine need to drop .270 or larger.

Don't get your hopes up, it's a remake of Lyman's 266469 and the mold is casting at .2684 which isn't enough for the Carcano. I believe this mold was meant for other 6.5's.

He may make the group buy 6.5 Kurtz.

I shot mine with jacketed .264's 160gr. and it shot decent, but with my other milsurps that I have converted to "leaded payload" the groups shrink with amazing results! I really want to find a good mould for this rifle, because I think it has excellent potential.

Get yourself a Lee 277-125-R mold and a .270 push through sizer. 8.00 off Flea Bay IIRC

why not go to midsouthshooters.com and get the lee cruise missle.they have it usually.mine casts 270.

I happened to have a few hundred .277 140gr cast bullets that I sized to .270 for my Carcano, its the onle thing I could shoot that wouldn't rattle down the bore.
