I had three deer running towards me this morning. I only seen them from 25 yards out and just had time to turn the Ultra Dot on and cock the hammer. I was not even able to extend the revolver all the way. I let the small one go by and shot the larger one.
I used Babore's 50-50 hollow point and it was destructive to the insides but just left a small exit. She went about 50 yards.

Thanks guys. It has been hard hunting, lots of rain and nothing is moving at all. It is the slowest I ever seen it. I think I only heard about 3 shots all morning too.
The only deer moving are the ones pestered by bucks. They seem to be feeding at night and bedding early. This one was packed full of corn.
Whitworth was hunting with me and he didn't see a thing. I am taking him back out around 2. Bioman will be out later too.

30 or 40 years and you are going to have to get a new hat.

If you had let it get out some, the exit would have been bigger. I didn't think that you shot at 25 yards.

I did up some cream deer heart and peas over toast for dinner. What an incredible meal that makes.

hopefully that small exit was the size of a quarter.

Deer flesh for thanksgiving -- good shot.

Which model of Ultra Dot do you have? I am pondering getting one on my Ruger 44 Redhawk. I have a Burris 1.5-4x on it now and would like something more compact.

Thanks

hopefully that small exit was the size of a quarter.
I went out and looked, it appears a tad larger then the boolit.
Ph4570, I use the Ultra Dot 30mm. Best for the money and lifetime warranty. I have yet to harm one even after thousands and thousands of shots from my .475. My 45-70 BFR will never break one with the reduced recoil. That big cannon is really a ***** cat and kicks less then my SBH.
Now Whitworth brought over a Jack Huntington revolver made from the castings of an original BFR and I think even before Magnum Research started to make them or when they made the first ones, not sure. It has a Bisley grip that puts my knuckle against the trigger guard. It has pretty but slippery grips. It is the large frame and cylinder.
It is in .50 Alaskan, a case made from the .348 W.
I DON'T THINK I WILL BE SHOOTING IT! I do not fear recoil but I don't want a busted knuckle either. This thing has about twice the recoil of the .475. :groner:
I think he said a 525 gr boolit at 1600 fps!

I think Whitworth had Huntington make him a 500 Linebaugh Maximum and the easiest way to make brass is to cut down 50 Alaskan brass to 1.6 inches. He's got hands and wrists made of steel if he's shooting 525 grain boolits at 1,600fps. I've got one of those cannons too and I was only able to fire 3 rounds of 440 grain at 1,550 before I threw the towel in and the guy next to me did one round and I'm pretty sure he sprain his wrist badly, as he just packed up and left the range after that. The 500 Smith at 1600fps isn't fun but it's no where near the pain threshhold of the 500 Linebaugh Maximum - The 500 Linebaugh, as opposed to the Linebaugh Maximum, which is 1.4" in length isn't as bad relative to felt recoil but as you've said before BFR, sometimes there is a point where too much of a good thing is just too much - I think the 500 Linebaugh Maximum might have reached that point. Your 475 Linebaugh is one great cartridge.

I am not sure which .500 Marko ordered from Jack. He has not received it yet. He made some little changes mid stream. He bought the Alaskan from another friend and some ammo is on the way.
I am going to stand way back with a first aid kit when he shoots it! :bigsmyl2:

You might want to put a leash on it when he fires it.
