The Savage 1899 (and later '99's) have a rotary magazine, allowing the use of pointed boolits, and the action is used for higher pressure loads such as the .300 savage and others.

So, I'm curious if any one is aware of Savage model 99 specific data for the 30-30 cartridge, either with pointed boolits or higher pressure loadings?

Thanks,

Tristan

Depends on the vintage of your '99. The older square bolters you need to watch a bit more than the radiused ones, or so the story goes. As for specifc loads, I've not seen any. I'd stay within standard pressures since none of these rifles are newer than, what? , the 1930's or so. IOW- don't consider it a 307 Winchester. As for the pointy ended boolits, load as for a RN of simlar weight. I would imagine you can safely duplicate most any factory load and maybe beat them by a bit if you have to 26" barrel. Mine is a 303 so I'm more of a "190 grain at 2000 fps" type guy.

I have a 30-30 and had a 300 that were made in the early twenties. They both shot cast very well. I used two Ideal molds ; #311397 (153gr SPT GC ) and #311413 (169gr PT GC ) . They both shot well in the 300 . But the 30-30 preferred the 169 grain bullet.
Never hunted with either of these , just shot paper. Kinda wish I had used the 300 with the 153 grain bullet to kill a deer .
