Daniel, drooling already. One of my funnest guns to shoot is a Marlin Cowboy Limited with 24" barrel in .44 Magnum. I load 7.0 gr. Green Dot for 1200 fps, a load that I can enjoy shooting all day. Good luck with the .357.

Good on you! I ended up with a 44 Puma, but I still want a 357 lever gun. Not much it won't handle in my area.

The 1894C is my favorite bumming around plinking rifle. Ammo at 400 an hour off the SDB has a good bit to do with it. :)

Congrats on the new addition.

13gr of 2400 and 180gr boolits is a good combo to reload after you shoot up all that ammo. :)

One of my favorite rifles, too. Along with my full power loads,I always carry some 158gr cast in .38 special cases with 2.4 gr Titegroup. Shoots to same point of impact at 25 yards as my heavy loads do at 50. Ragged hole accuracy at that distance. Quiet, Penetrated a skunk from end to end in one of my barns.!:lovebooli Should be great on all kinds of small game!

I'll go you one better.

I just gave mine away.

My Dad was in an auto accident, shoulder belt broke his strunum. 30-06 and 35 Rem where to painfull for him to shoot.
Now he has my marlin 357, 1.5K Weaver Scope, 100 rounds of 158g ammo. Should get him thru deer season.
I hope I get it back.

Good gun...good package deal!

One question: Wouldn't you like something with a little more horsepower for some of the big critters up in Alaska? There isn't anything on the loose down here is Missouri that the 357 won't do nicely for.

I believe, there is room on that for .357 max.
However, that is a fun little rifle. I had one. It was my test bed for my loads.

.357 max won't feed in an 1894, even with the carrier mod. And loaded rounds won't eject.

I checked yesterday and that is the kind i got with mine. i think it is kind of bulky on the gun, and I like the iron fire sights.

Thanks. I thought it looked kind of cool, but did not know what others would think. So I posted it to see what folks think.
Glad you like it.

Daniel,
Just don't set it down in the woods. You would have a hard time finding it again! Great gun, you will enjoy it.

best be gettinh a blaze orange sling from Junior, you'll end up losing it if you are not careful.

I just bought my first camo rifle, a stainelss Rem700 in 223. For the first time in my life, Remingtons are pretty affordable now.

Blaze orange?? You must be joking.
I am not the one that did the camo job. It was that way when i got it. Thats why it was cheap.

You will really enjoy that little rifle, they are a hoot to shoot and just kick around the woods with. It is almost comical to shoot really light loaded 38spc loads, you can almost watch the round all the way to the target....
Between the wife and I we have shot ours so much it finally started to double feed out of the magazine, so it is at the Dr. right now getting healthy.

[I] recommended the blaze orange because it would be easy to lose. We lost a camo rifle in the Army once, spent days looking for it and gave up, a couple of days later a driver stopped his truck for a call of nature and tripped over it. Good job he was an honest soldier. When I was young and wearing green, I would never put my rifle down no whilst in the bush, no matter what. I am not that fit or young nor do I have a nasty ol' sar-major kicking my butt anymore.

Its funny, all my woodcutting tools have floro handles or paint to make them stand out, but I haven't ever done anything about my guns. I suppose it would be easy to forget an axe or a wedge, but if you are out hunting you are not likely to forget you rifle.

That is the perfect load in a guy at the range's Marlin and Desert Eagle and Smith M-27. Only he used 12.5 grains. It was the boolit Honchoed by .357max.

For christ sake Junior Bull......

That rifle looks like the birds spotted it ........

AND you ought to tone that gloating ........ act more respectable and all ...........

Just kidding!!!!!!

Congrats on your "C" model score ........

I have had one since 1980 and won't let go ............ been thinking about places to hide it so my wife does not pick up on it and claim it like she did my M1 Garrand!!!

Some don't have much luck shooting specials out of theirs but mine does fine with 125 gr. J-word HP's in the 38 cases ...... maybe a ever so little of jiggling as you crank the lever at the worst.

I had a Williams peep added right out of the box ........ HATE those buckhorn rear thing a ma jigs.

On second thought ....... with Christmas comming maybe I should let my wife hon(ey)swaggle it and then she can get me a .44 version?

I havn't been hunting this year, but I loaned my .357 Marlin to a neighbor. He shot a 10 point buck at about 30 yards, it went about 5 yards and dropped. I did put a scope on the gun, a 1.5-6 power variable (Wall Mart). That range is real typical in this part of MO.
He didn't recover the bullet, as it broke a couple ribs going out of the deer. And I was thinking that the .357 was too light.
Cheers and you have what we used to call in Colorado, "A great jeep gun."

Well, you damn sure won't loose that one in the snow!!! :)

I hate this site, this forum, and now this thread. It all started with just a wee ol' 30/30, then 45/70, now I'm trying to find a buyer for one of my kidneys... THEN I'll have the 357 and 44 lever shooters that I so lust for!

Daniel, a 180 gr. RFN Gc and LiL'Gun is a very good combo in my Marlin.

I kinda wonder what that would do close range on a cow elk?

Coldfingers

I believe it would kill it dead there leadman. I did a little test on a road killed cow moose last wither with similar load. I dunno where the bullet finally ended up, but is was sure not in the moose anymore. Had the heart been still pumping there would have been severe leakage. I took a medium sized black bear with the 94C several years back. Frontal shot, slightly downhill. Boolit went in under chin, exited belly. Couple feet of bear tissue penetrated and boolit somewhere in the tundra.

I tend to keep my killin shots on large stuff in bow-n-erra range and am confident that if I use good placement I will need the packframe and a sharp knoif.

They make a fine little dinkin around the woods rifle.

I got this Rossi Stainless Puma in .357 in the hopes that it would be the PERFECT woods companion. I did a complete action polishing job and reload everything from very light fun loads to full magnum loads, all lead boolits.

It is accurate beyond all my expectations and a joy to carry and shoot. It is my number one goto gun for all seasons. The 357 in a 16 inch barrel is magic!

Now all I need is a ghost ring or tang sights.

I could not be more pleased.

PS: I had a Marlin 94 in .44 Mag but sold it years ago and been sorry ever since.

Now that Marlin has a stainless, I gotta have one in .357. I know you will like yours, the more you shoot it the more you will like it. Every time you pull the trigger, in your mind you will say "How Sweeeet!"
