Somewhere I heard of guys using fishing sinkers instead of buying soft lead bullets to slug barrels/chambers/throats. Has anyone used them with no problems. What size would one use for 45 caliber?

I Posted this on another forum just a couple weeks ago. You can't see it in the pic but the sinkers are "1/2 Size". Just make sure the ones you get are lead. I guess they do make some that aren't pure lead.

I just slugged my Redhawk 45 Colt again and my Puma 454 levergun with a 20" barrell. I had used a round ball previously but I don't think it was quite big enough. I used an egg shaped sinker with the hole running lengthwise this time and it was perfect for these 45's. I oiled up the bore and hammered/tapped them through with a shotgun cleaning rod wrapped with tape every few inches. Here are a few pics.

Excellent pics.

Changeling,

It doesn't matter what size the slub is as long as it's bigger than your bore to start with. You can use a .58 caliber slug for a .22, any excess is sheared off as you drive it into the bore.
