I picked up a P-14 yesterday from a small gun show here in tx.while not new to the 303 brit I am to the P-14.
barrel is mint and it has RE on top of the reciever.I would think it was refurb'ed(ftr) and put away.
I have a batch of the lee 185 gr already cast for the MN's so I will start off with that bullet.

No experience with a P14, but I had an M1917 (Eddystone),that I could make expert on the Navy Rifle course with just about any surplus Ball ammo.

Wish I had that rifle back.

Pete: My very best jacketed bullet load was the .311 inch Sierra 174 grain HPBT over 41 grains of Varget. Velocity was just about 2400 fps.

That bullet is expensive so you can try 40 grains under about anybody's .311 inch 180 grain bullet.

Supposedly, the sights of the P14s were regulated for the 174 grain FMJ at 2450 fps.

As for a cast load mine did its best with 20 grains of 5744 with that Lyman bullet poured of straight lino, sized .313 and lubed with SPG. Velocity was about 1650 fps.

You probably already know but just in case that RE on it stands for Remington.

Nice Score! P14's are getting harder and harder to find in unmolested condition. I have a P14 and an M1917, both Eddystones, and with ball ammo the P14 shoots noticeably better than the M1917.

I have a P14 that unfortunatly sluggs a tad large @ .314". Pretty much just leaves paper patching as an option.

RE = Remington

I have a very early P14 under 02800 serial number mfg 1916. Later RE had an oval around the letters but the early ones don't have an oval. Mine is most definitely FTR with a new 5 groove barrel and the most hideous black paint and stock refinishing job, typical of the Brits' hatred for fine firearms in the hands of the unwashed heathen.

Right side of the buttstock may have some stamping in the wood. Mine has '62 indicating when it was FTR in 1962. Top of the receiver ring and left side wall of the receiver may also have several British stampings for "view" and possibly a regimental stamp. You may also see a date like '18 or not. It may also have the broad arrow and an R for Remington.

These rifles have lots of little markings. I have Harrison's book while its a bit skimpy it does identify all the markings on U.S. Model 1917 and P14 in various incarnations. You'll really have to inspect your rifle with a magnifying glass stem to stern for markings. W R E are the prime contractor letters for Winchester, Remington & Eddystone (Remington-Eddystone).

Why is it that I feel faint when hearing about an original Brit. jungle carbine going for $300? Your P 14 Looks to be in nice condition.Robert
