............More a 'short rifle' then a carbine, but that's what it's supposed to be, a carbine.

Even though it isn't a "Mauser" Mauser, it's still quite nicely built.

It's a nice rifle to carry. Very well balanced. I actually have 2 of these 'Carbines' and it is absolutely amazing the length of the throat and leade they put on them. The barrels on both are like new. If they were shot much they were well taken care of afterwards. The lands start about an inch in front of the casemouth. The throat is tapered and at it's widest, in front of the casemouth is .316". In 0.600" it has tapered to .312" and then for about 0.150" it remains .312" where the lands start. It's about another 0.200" before the lands are their full height.
This particular rifle (or carbine!) has a bore-groove of .304" x .312". The only cast boolit that has been in anyway what you'd call accurate had been the Lyman 314199 sized .314". The other M1909 Cav Carb has a bore -groove of .305" x .3115" at the breech and the groove is .312" at the muzzle. The 314299 only goes .302" on the nose and 5 rounds at 50 yards has delivered groups of 1.5" with a few larger and some smaller. I've yet to try any of the Nu-Judge, or my 'Fat' Loverins in either rifle yet. No sense rushing into anything.
The Nu-Judge @ 193grs goes .306" on the nose and a solid .316" on the drive bands. It's OAL is 1.123" but is .813" from base to the turn of the ogive. The Fat Loverins run 183grs, and are 1.027" OAL wiht it's flat nose. The front band is .311" and is .805" from thebase. Used in a dummy test cartridge neither will reach the lands. Given how the more undersized 314299 shot, I hold out more hope for these other 2 designs.
Several years ago I tried some of the Hornady 174gr SP's at .312" in both rifles and the best of the cast loads equaled these jacketed loads, except the jacketed ones were going 2300 some FPS and the cast was doing 1720 FPS. Hopefully in the next month I can get some test ammo with the other 2 cast slugs loaded up, and maybe even shot!
