I have been playing around on Mountain Moulds trying to design a ligher weight GC boolit for my 454 for deer

I was hopeing to get a GC 260 - 270 gr boolit with a 80% meplate

But so far I have had to shorten the nose up a lot more than I was hoping to

How short of a nose will NORMALY shoot well ?

As I have the Lee 300 gr GC RF mould that shoots well enough at hunting velositys with the limmited testing I have done ( 3" at 100 yds )

If I have to go much heaveyer than 270 gr , I might as well just shoot the Lee boolit

Btw this or something close is what I keep coming up with
270 gr
80% Meplate
.452
Front band .050
Straight shank for GC
Nose length .270

To get the nose longer with that big meplat you'll need to remove lead from somewhere else. A wider lube groove and a truncated cone nose, maybe.
