is anyone casting for the xd .45 acp? what have you had success with? I've been working with the lee tc tl they claim its a 230 but it drop at 240 but I tried with tite group and didn't like the performance adjusted my seating depth and tried 4.4grains of trail boss and my gun ran butter smooth and was plenty accurate for the bad guy factor

I've had pretty much the same success as you have. I did have some trouble with an ingoing (loaded) casemouth hooking on an outgoing (empty) casehead but sizing to .452 stopped that.
My mold drops at 240gr as does yours.

noclue was it a sizing issue and or seating depth problem

I changed the boolit size from .454 > .452 and haven't had one catch since.

My XD 45 loves the Lee 230 grain TL TC sized at .452. Best results were over 4.5 grains of Bullseye, but it shot great over green dot and tight group too. My Lee 2-cav dropped them closer to 240 as well (238 average if I remember right with WW's). I also used some Lee RN style 230's and they shot fine also. My XD gobbles up all the cast TC's and RN boolits I can put through it, but other XD owners tell me they will hang up on some semi-wadcutter profile bullets.

I cast and load for two XD .45's. When I first started loading and testing loads for them I was using some SWC's and found that no matter what I did I couldn't get a 100% reliability with the SWC. Because of the magazine lip angle the ejecting bullet sometimes contacts the next bullet in the magazine causing stoppages.

I've tried different round nose cast bullets and had some problem seating them deep enough so that the bullet wasn't too deep into the throat. The two XD's I have both seem fairly finniky about the bullet chambering into the throat.

Finally got Miha's first single cavity .45 HP mold and never looked back. Now I load using his 2 cav Cramer and have great accuracy from both guns and zero malfunctions. I even use that same bullet for some limited IPSC I tried the XD for. The bullet shape has enough clearance at the throat to allow the bullet seat depth to be where I want it for function.

Since both pistols get used for CCW off and on between my wife and myself I was looking for a good practice load that I could load up to feel similar to a HydraShok or light for practice and steel. That bullet is what I would recommend usually pushed by WW-231 which burns pretty clean.

If you want specifics let me know and I'll go look.

thanks guys I've never been a fan of the swc and I have been able to get my lee tc tl run reliable. I've been using some trail boss I had laying around and its performed very well

I always used a medium burn powder vs the quicker shotgun powders with the Lee 452-230 TC. I like unique, universal, power pistol, herco, or even WSF in those heavy 240 grain TC bullets. If you are only pushing around 700 to 750 fps the faster powders do well but if you run the velocities up at 800 fps or above it seems, for me anyway, as if the slower powders give better accuracy. The XD can be a picky gun.

Triggerhappy, I would be interested in the specifics. I am trying to get the Lyman 452460, 200 grain SWC, to be reliable. Same problem you are describing, but in a Ruger P97. I was using 5.4 grains of 231, bullet seated with about 0.030 inch of the first land out of the case. I have stepped up to 5.6 grains, and seems to be a bit better. Very accurate, just not reliable.

Robs I appreciate the info I haven't tried any unique or universal as of yet but I had really good results with trailboss But I'm sure they weren't going very fast once I get to felling better i"ll give the slower powders a try

hey Triggerhappy I like the hat very nice

I have been using that bullet over 8.3gr AA#5 in a Sig P220 with great results.
