I have model 25 smith that I want to fire the heavy cast boolits in, All the loads I have stop at 230 gr. I have a nice 452 bullet that weighs 255 gr.. does anyone have a pet load for this combination? I dont want a magnum just a safe accurate load. I have a .44mag for that. ...hawken54...

I'll be interested in what comes up, I have a pair of convertibles and the 200 gn boolits seem to shoot pretty low in the gun. A heavier boolit might work better.

I used Lyman #454490 quite a bit with Unique when I had a S&W Model 25-2. I don't have the exact loads I used back then, but I do have the load source I used to develop them--the Speer Manual, which lists data for their swaged 250 grain SWC for the 45 Auto Rim.

Herco-- 6.2 grains 791 FPS
6.6 " 842 "

Unique 5.8 " 772 "
6.2 " 824 "

I want to say that 6.0 grains of Unique was the load I used, but have no records available.

John Taffin listed some heavy bullet loads for the 45ACP in his article "Cast Bullets For Semi-Autos" Guns magazine March 2001.

This is whats listed:
6.0 grs Unique Lyman 255 gr #454424 735fps
6.5 grs Unique Lyman 255 gr #454424 780fps

I have not tried the loads so you are on your own. Good luck.

I'm in the middle of a heavy boolit in the 45 ACP project but don't have my load data at work. I have at least equaled the loads already posted and wouldn't be concerned about firing them in a revolter at all. Tony

My powder weights and resulting velocities as "transcribed" from the Speer #13 text didn't align too well after flying up the cables, did it?

Herco--6.2 to 6.6 grains, 791 to 842 FPS.

Unique--5.8 to 6.2 grains, 772 to 824 FPS.

:coffee: ---I have shot a 255gr. swc with 3.5 bull in a 45 auto---good groups----start with about 3.2 or so-no filler needed------Im sure other powders like 231 would also do well----------------- Mag-----------:castmine:
