I've had my Lyman 1200 DPS III for about a year now with no problems (I also have an older LE1000 electronic scale from them that I've had for 7-8 years--no problems with that either). I read thru a bunch of reviews from Cabela's, Midway, etc.; looks like both had their share of problems. The deciding factor for me was that the Lyman fits better on my bench compared to trhe RCBS (Lyman sits lengthwise against the back wall of my bench whereas the RCBS would have stuck out much further). I'm not a devout Lyman or RCBS guy--don't own a lot of either brand.

the article is a bit dated and (if I remember correctly?) there has been some improvements with the other models.

$385 is WAY too much to pay for the Lyman DPS 1200. Try this:

110V: http://www.midsouthshooterssupply.com/item.asp?sku=000157752400 $267.49

240V: http://www.midsouthshooterssupply.com/item.asp?sku=000157752411 $274.47

I have the DPS-2 with the DPS-3 speed upgrade kit. The only thing it lacks that the DPS-2 has is the auto start when replacing the scale pan. I've had some issues with it when weighing small powder charges, but no problem with charges over 25 grains or so. According to the Lyman guy at the NRA convention, I may have a static electricity problem, causing the small charge weights to appear erratic. I haven't yet decided on a way to dissipate the static. The unit uses a "wall wart" DC power supply that's isolated from ground, making it difficult to dump the static into my electrical system ground. You might want to call RCBS and ask them how they deal with this problem before ordering.

Stew

Smart move I am on my 2nd Lyman 1200. If you do not mind RE CALCULATE every 10 seconds it might be ok. Sure wish I had not wasted my money.

I've always wondered about these.
I've heard that they work best with stick powder, OK with ball, and not so good with flake.
Also not so good with light loads.
I have an old Lyman beam type electric powder measure.
Works good with stick.
