I never knew there was such a thing as "surplus powder" This is my first exposure to the idea. Since I am on a very fixed income, the thought of cheaper powder sounds like a great idea.

I'm wondering if WC297 would be OK with a 255gr CB using the data for H110 in my Redhawk .44mag and my Marlin 1894 .44? Some posters are warning against the use of a light bullet. Is a 240-265gr bullet too light for use with this powder in a .44? Is there anything else peculiar about this loading that I should be aware of? Can I get velocities up to 1200fps?

None of the websites y'all link to, are suggesting a surplus powder suitable for the Ole 45-70. Is there a surplus powder that's currently listed that performs well with 350-380 grain bullets in the 45-70?

in the 44 Mag, but you need to work slowly since I have yet to find anyone here who might be using it and able to share some wisdom.

The only Milsurp stuff for the 45-70 is the SLOW powders that result in a full case and less than Black Powder velocities. See info for 5010, 862, 870 in the load data section over at the CastPics site. With current pricing it may not be a bargain, one would have to put a pencil to the cost and load requirements to see if there is any value to it.

As John H said in a different thread, I fear we are at the end of the bargain priced Milsurp times.
