Anybody using it? A friend who keeps me in lead, just acquired a BFR. I told him I would help him out with boolits. I'd like to not have to mess with gas checks, but he thinks he needs them since all of his store bought bullets have them.

Looking at the cartridges numbers, and his planned usage, I don't see the need for checks(targets and whitetails).

No checks are needed and the Lee is pretty accurate. One of my best boolits is from a mold I made at 420 gr, PB, 80% meplat. Has done less then an inch at 100 yards. The Lee has done under 1" at 50 yards.
The Lee loves 26.5 gr of 296 and a Fed 155 primer, also 15 gr of HS-6.
Revolvers do not need gas checks unless you shoot softer lead and soft is not needed in the .44, .45 or .475. Hard boolits thump deer like crazy. Go no softer then WD WW's. I like about 25 to 28 BHN.
Look at my avitar, average 50 yard groups with BFR's.

I forgot, I use Felix lube rubbed into grooves by hand and push boolits through a .476" Lee die to remove excess lube. Boolits will age to almost .478", no problem, shoot them.
Lar's Carnauba red works too but I need to use a lube sizer. Tried to rub it into boolits by hand and got blisters!

ive shot that bullet a bunch too in a couple of 475s and its allways been one of my most accurate bullets in them. Only animal i shot with one was a boar about 250 lbs and it did the job on that one. Only problem with it is it has a shallow crimp grove and ive had it jump crimp with real heavy loads and old brass

The Lee bullet is the most accurate bullet I've shot out of my .480 Ruger. I hate Lee 2-cavity moulds, but the bullet design is a good one.

Most Lee boolits have poor crimp grooves but the case tension from using Hornady dies will really help.
I will never figure out why Lee thinks a scratch is enough.

For a real powder puff load, try 5.0 grains of Trail boss, and the Lee 400. Feels like a .38 spl., and shoots around 1" or less at 50 yds. The lack of a crimp groove is my biggest complaint with this boolit. I did have to buy 3 to get one that cast within .003", but it was worth it.
