440 gr boolits don't plink. They plunk.

My favorite plinking load for this boolit is 26.5 Lil gun. My boolits weigh 460gr loobed and sized to .502. I loaded up some of the 375ge GB boolits with 30.0 Lil Gun and they show some promise but the heavier boolits make the steel targets at 50 and 100yds "dance" much more and until I get a good load for the 375's they are much more accurate (1"@50yds).

10 GR of Trail Boss - 10 GR of Unique.
Shot some tonight for the first time. They're mild and accurate. I was shooting the 440's without checks.

Also use a 320 REAL sized .501 over 10Gr of TB. That's a hoot.

I've used as little as 8.5 gr's of Trail Boss with a 6 1/2" 500 using a 440 gr Lee boolit. 9 gr. with Unique. Work up a load from those reduced charges to find optimum accuracy.

With the weight of a 500 taming the recoil of that light powder charge even more, it almost feels like I'm shooting a .38 with wad cutters. As has happened with the .44 Mag, new load formulas and new boolits are going to make this a very versatile, even fun caliber to "plink" with in the future.

Have fun with your new gun.....

That's right, you got make those targets dance. It's a 500 S&W. You have to use the caliber the way it's intended. Don't look for the "heaviest" or the "plinking" load, look for the accurate load.

Here's my .475 Linebaugh. 100-yd target. 5 shots to the right, 1 flier - me. Clicked it over and fired 2 shots at the can. The 500 can do this also.
