I use the Lyman 130 RN and it works well using loads of 5.0 grains of HP-38 or 6.0 of Unique..using Std Small Pistol primers. It will shoot high so I had to increase the front sight blade height by 2.0 mm. Also have used Bullseye powder and it to works well. I size the bullets to .309".

I shoot 311359s with 10-12 grns of 2400. Mine seems to be picky about case length so I trim the cases a bit, sorry I'm at work and don't have access to my notes on length. It shoots much better with the "short cases". I have a 3118HP for plinking stuff with 4 grns of Unique. Very mild and effective on all small vermin.

Mike Venturino did an article on loading for 30 caliber carbine handguns and rifles fairly recently...in November/December AMERICAN HANDGUNNER. Maybe he is around to tell you more.

OT A local gun shop run by a character known as "Ben the bandit" was open until 3pm on Saturdays. Some innocent came in and traded a 4 5/8 barrel 357 RUGER Blackhawk for a 30 carbine version with 7.5 inch barrel. The old %^&$^ told him it would be quieter because it was smaller and had a longer barrel. After the victim departed, Ben figured he would calm down by the time he came back on Monday. Of course, this was in 1974 when we weren't quite so good about ear protection!

The only pistol I've ever had stolen was a 7.5" Ruger old model Blackhawk in 30 Carbine. I miss that gun, my ears don't.

Read Mr. Begal's article on the 30 carbine. Mine will chamber .32-20 brass and becomes a well behaved revolver then. Begal explains this stuff much better than I can.

Hi, I also use the RCBS 115 grain round nose. Originally intended to load 14.0 grains of IMR 4227, but then couldn't seat bullet deep enough to avoid cases being far enough into cylinder; they were binding agaist recoil plate.Solution was to reduce load to 13.5 grains and then seat the bullet deeper so that case mouth was in front of front band. Excellent grouping. Another good load accuracy-wise is 5.5 grains of Unique. Suggest that you search up Beagle's article on 30 Carbine and related use of 32-20 cases slightly shortened. Outstanding accuracy and very smooth performance. No length probs or recoil plate binding issues. LLS

Back in 1978 when Skeeter Skelton wrote that article in Shooting Times about the 32-20 Colts, he created a run on 32-20's that quickly dried up the limited supply of those priced reasonably and drove up prices on those still for sale.
I caught the fever also.
After looking at a Ruger in 30 carbine, I figured I could simply load 32-20 loads in the carbine case.
Worked fine, and been doing that for the past 30 years.
