There....I did it and I'm glad! I'm the proud owner of a Marlin guide gun. Who all has one? What can you tell me about yours? I'm waiting for a die set and a Lee 457-405-fp mould that Midway shipped yesterday. I haven't even got it home yet to play with it, and.....the wife doesn't know about it!! (Please don't tell her).:lovebooli

I love mine! Put some XS sights on it:http://www.xssights.com/store/rifle.html
Then I replaced the lever with:http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=1589/Product/BIG_LOOP_LEVER
Now I have one fast shooting (even with gloves on) close range deer/hog gun. You will love it. As far as the wife is concerned-----a good friend of mine taught me this long ago-----all guns come into the house through the garage, but they leave the house through the front door.

Dang, superior....

I should never have come to this forum. Now I've gotta have a new Guide Gun in 45/70 and a 35 Whelen to be a happy man..... and I'm a handgun hunter!!!

If our wives were ever to get together we'd be in big trouble....

Good luck with the "new toy". I probably won't be far behind ya....

Congrats!
I have 2 of the little beasties. I have Ashley Ghost rings on them (Skinner Sights are almost identical and cheaper) and they work great. I usuallly shoot the RD 460-425 or the RCBS 405 out of them and they are accurate and hard hitting. Get ready to pour alot of lead down the barrel because they are fun to shoot!

Good luck!

Haven't gotton one yet but it is on my list. Here is a little trick that I picked up. When wanting to bring a new gun home without having to explain (how much, why, ect.) never leave the house with out a gun. Well actualy make her think that you left the house with a gun. Take a empty gun case out with you. Then when you come how just act natural. Just don't tell her that you are going to the gun shop:wink:. Actualy my wife is pretty understanding of my addictions but does help keep me in line... some.

Now thats deceitful. I do what every red blooded American male should do.

Go out, open the trunk and brazenly carry it in!

Going gun shopping with your wife is like hunting with the game warden.

Thanks, guys! Sorry TDC for planting the seed. I have quite a few guns in my collection but this one is BY FAR!!, my favorite. I feed and shoot a 338winmag for fun because I like the sheer power, but this little guide gun is "Bad to the Bone". It's probably the smallest, lightest, meanest, nastiest thing I've ever laid eyes on. It looks like it means "Business". Just knowing it will anchor any animal on earth with brutal authority has me stoked! I played with it last night after the wife fell asleep and it's just awesome. It's still in the plastic, in the box with the Marlin tag swinging from the sling swivel. Ordered 20 nickel plated cases, a die set, a lee autoprime shell holder and a Lee 457-405-f, all which should get here in a few days. CAn't wait to shoot it! Thanks for the wife advice too. I just hope that if something should happen to me, my wife doesn't sell my guns for what I told her I paid for them!!

Here's a pic of mine. I installed a Williams Peep Wild West large loop, Marbiles green fiber optic front sight ( don't get the red one it blurrs your target), custom butt sleve, stoned the trigger, cut the hammer spring. I cast with a NEI .458-440-GC #346 with ww it comes in at 464 before lube and gas check. the case in the other pic is a 30-06, and the last one is a deer I got last year thats the entrance hole. Other than a big hole the meat was fine. I load with IMR 4198. Southpaw I know of a guy that does that same thing.

After a few years tell your wife those guns sure were a good investment because look at what they are worth now. Maybe she will let you invest in some more.

Well, I thought mine was the meanest, nastiest one I've ever laid eyes on, but after seeing your's, tcrocker, mine takes 2nd place lol. I'm sure there are some cool guide guns on this site.
I guess the only way that my wife will believe what my guns are worth is if I were to sell one.
And that AIN'T happenin!!!

Man I just traded a Ruger left hand .270 that had rust pits on the barrel to a guy who needed a lefty for his kid. Told him I was looking for a 45-70 and he said he had one........complete with XS sights. I was only asking $350 for the rusty Ruger and this GG is freakin pristine. Now I have a 45-70 to go with my .444 and .450's...........it's sick I tell ya'

That is one hunk of nasty Stainless Steel. You hafta carry a 1911 on your belt to complete the ensamble.

Of course when I go to the range to shoot my M-1, I pack it in a leather scabbard tied to the side of my Triumph Motorcycle. And of course my 1911 in a custom light brown leather holster strapped to my right hip.

I get a lot of room on the roadways with that get up. I was stopped by a cop one day on the way to the range and he asked me if the M-1 was loaded. I replied, no but the 1911 is.

I like the idea of the sidearm. I own a camo side-car motorcycle (among 6 other bikes) and I want to put a scabbard on it. In this case howver, maybe a Colt SSA might be a better choice to compliment the 1895 rather than the 1911.:Fire::):-D

Wonderful rifle. I had poor accy with the Lee 405, but excellent results with
the RCBS 405. You may have different results.
