Have a nice Marlin 30/30 I would like to use cast bullets with however the throat is so short that with all the cast I have seen the driving band would be swallowed up in the case due to the throat length. Really do not want to have the bbl rethroated so my question is, is there a COMMERCIALLY AVAILABLE cast bulltet anywhere to be found? Please bear in mind the driving band must be well forward of the usual locaton. Tried seating the band within the case and the results were of course terrible.

I do not know about commercial available bullets but I have used several that I have cast myself in several Marlins. It sounds like the bullet you tried has a fat nose section. I have had that problem with some Lyman 30 cal molds that cast a rather large nose that would get hung up when loading. I quit using that bullet in 30-30s. I have used a lot of Lee 170 gr RF bullets as well as the Lyman 311041 bullet without this problem occurring. The lee mold is not very expensive and is a good shooter.

Hammer,

Try Saeco #316 150 gr, or the pb version #630 140 gr. Leadhead Bullets sells it.

I have the #316, if you would like samples, PM me.

I have purchased bullets from all three of these companies and they all make good cast bullets.
