Hey gang, it's the rookie again; I've got everything on order to get started, but I've a question for my .32 H&R's. I like the looks of the Lyman 311008, advertised for the .32-20. It throws a 115 gr bullet, I like heavier bullets. Have any of you used this one in a .32 H&R? I've got a pair of Ruger Single Sixes, and I guess my questions are these:

1) Will my Rugers stabilize the longer bullet?

2) I'd like to get 950-1050 fps out of them, any ideas as to load data?

I've posted something similar to this thread on the Reloading side also. Thanks in advance for any input.:-D

Klausg.. Yes it will stabilize them and it will group them too. The problem may be your front sight, it may not be tall enough. My ruger 32 h&r shoots high with heavier bullets, at close to moderate ranges, But it does shoot them good.

My problem is deciding on, whether to continue using the rcbs 32-98, or building my front sight higher. DM

Klaus--

Dittoes to Mack's comments, since I recently got a Mountain Molds 115 grain flatnose to group well in my S&W 32 Mag. The heavier boolits like your velocity range better than the 800-850 FPS I tried initially.

The RCBS 98 SWC and Lyman #313631 (100 grain SWC/GC) still have an edge accuracy-wise in the S&W.

I had my .32's out today, again, with the .314"x120 RF Group Buy. It was grouping under an inch at 25 yards. The load is 9.5 grs of WC 820 (old slow lot). The bullet is 5/1 ww/lino, the lube is Emmert's Home Mix, and the bullet is sized at .314". Lee's Factory Crimp Die is used. LOA is 1.415". Crimped on the first band.

My two .32's are an S&W Kit Gun (stainless, "J" frame, 4" adj sights) and K.32 6" with scope.

This load chronographs at 1100 fps in the 6". It falls in the "not necessarily recommended" area as I have no pressure testing equipment.

I've been using that bullet in a single-shot (Merrill) pistol for IHMSA Field Pistol with 4 grains of Unique. It works well. I size .310 for the .308 Merrill barrel.

The attached photo shows a twice around the cylinder 25 yard group out of my 6 1/2" Ruger. The bullet is the GC'd version of 311008. You can read the load data and performance on the target. With 4.5 gr it Unique shoots as well with that bullet and runs about 1020 fps. That is a 50 ft pistol target. I've shot some comercial cast equivelent of that bullet and they shoot almost as well.

All-thanks much for your input, it looks like I'll have to add that mold to my wish list. I found a Lyman 311252 on eBay, (77gr RN), that should be arriving shortly that I'll have to make do with for awhile.

Larry G.-The proof is in the shooting & that's a REAL pretty target. BTW, I used to live right across the Narrows from you when I was stationed at Ft. Lewis; in Gig Harbor.

Take care y'all & God Bless

I just got through shooting some 311008 in a M94 30-30 20" carbine with good results. Around 1" @ 25 yards with a big ol' Firesight front and a bad rest out my back door. Load was 12.0 gr WC820(n) and AV = 1486 fps. Size = .309". Lube = LLA.

It shoots exactly to POA with the sights adjusted 1" high @ 25 yards for my deer/hog load.

I might use it on coyotes . . . and I might not. . . . I just wanted to see if I could get around 1500 fps with them and WC820(n). I found them a few days ago in some old bullet boxes I hadn't looked at in a while--the label said 1986.

I've shot a bunch of 311008s in a SS .32 Mag. They do well and normally, I shoot the hollow point version of this bullet more than any other bullet I have.

311008 119.7 grains Unique 4.0 grains 1064 FPS

I've also shot the 311252 but it's a bit light for my use.

You're on the right track with the 3118/311008./beagle

Ive been down this road myself,,,,finally settled on the heavy bullets and didnt have anuff front sight.Called ruger, and they said they didnt make a taller sight for the single-six-32 mag,,, so i built up the original with J.B. weld, and filed it to size.Works great!

just posted something simular on the group buy fourm. In the .32s ive had good luck with wc820 and lilgun. Try a starting load of 8.5 grains with either. couple things looking at my loading data. My .32s have allways prefered bullets on the hard side. I cast most of them now out of 5050 ww/lyno. Sized to .312. One more thing thats strange is ive allways got a lot better accuracy with those powders in the .32s using mag primers.

Gang- again, thanks much for the continued input; I found a Lyman 3118 on eBay, (I'm still winning unless some of you guys jump on it). It's only a single cavity, but I'm a patient man.
