I have been trying to make the Lee 340 grain PB bullet to shoot well in my Marlin Guide gun at low velocity (looking for a plinking load) After some work with the mold it is now making very nice looking bullets that measure .479-.480. (Bore slugs .477) I have tried LTL and pan lube, no filler, dacron, even COW (using 2400)
So far my Unique or 2400 loads run mostly 5-6" at 100 yards. when in the 1000-1300fps range. Has anyone else found a good low-velocity load with this bullet?

I don't use the Lee bullet but I do have an RCBS 45 325 gr bullet that I use a lot. My favorite load is 27 gr of AA5744 with no filler. I can hold 2 inch and under with this load at 100 yards.

Thanks NickSS and txpete. I looked up load data for the two loads you mentioned and they seem to be just a few hundred fps faster than I have been trying for. (I have good high-power loads but they are not fun to shoot from the bench as you well know)

I don't have the AA powder but I think I have some 4198 so will give that a try.
Thanks

Your bore slugs .477???? Mine slugs .459 and I thought that was a bit large!

oops, sorry. .457 ( would put one of those little "embarrassed" faces here but I don't see them!)
