Its 1/4 past 2am, and Ive just made my biggest cast boolits to date.

500 grain .458s. Using WWs

had to get the temp up to 750ish before I could get the lead to smooth out.

By this weekend they should be pyrodex loaded and ready to rainbow!

Whenever I cast anything over 450gr I use 2 pots. One 20lb and the other a 10 pounder. That way I can preheat the lead in the ten pounder and add as needed to the 20lb pot. Casting bigguns drains the pot quickly and once I get the rythym going I don't want to have to wait for the alloy to get back to temperature.

There is something that is really different about the big heavy ones. I cast 458's up to 535, and have cast modified mini's up to over 600. Sure does drain a pot fast even with a sing cav. mold.

I've only got the 4lb lee pot. I'd spend most of the time filling and waiting on temp.

I get 30 some 500 grainers from my homemade pot.
