Digging thru the accumulation of seldom seen and even more seldom used(in this case, never), came across these two Ideal single cavity molds. 302 is a pointed bullet with shoulder similar to a SWC and 2 well defined square lube grooves.
271 is a SWC design, also with 2 well defined square lube grooves.
I am assuming these are for 38 S&W.
Can anyone date these? and confirm that they are for 38 S&W? and any other interesting trivia.
Thanks!!!!!!

P.S. I just noticed a previous note on the 302, maybe I can be brought up to speed. Thanks again.

The 360302 was designed by Himmelwright in the VERY early 1900's and was made available in both 117 and 130 grain variations. I own the originals but had Bruce at BRP machine me a 4-cavity mould to cast both.

GREAT craftsmanship on his part ! He has now made both available in his standard catalog !

BRP also made me a 4-cavity Himmelwright 429220 (45 2.1 modified design) of a similar design as well ! Really love that one ! :)

I just looked in Ideal #35 and both are listed for 38 S&W Special. I'm going to have to cast a few and see how they work.

360271 was a very popular number judging by the number I see around. I have one that casts a bit smaller than I'd like. Wish it dropped around .362+, but it doesn't. Seems to work good.

Using the info I have from Floodgate, the 260302 spans the Ideal handbooks from 1912 to 1953. the 360271 goes from 1912 to 1960....Geo

The 271 must have been popular as I ended up with two somehow. Both of mine run about .360" according to my notes./beagle
