How many people have Herters boolit molds and use them regularly?

I've got their single cavity 323179 and 257100 Spitzers and I love how easy they are to work with.

I'm constantly on the lookout for them as I find them as great bargains.

AKA - you got them and don't use them, I want them.

I am always looking for .264(6.5), .30 cal, .321, .323 (8mm), .38 and .45 molds.

I've got a single cav. 348190 that I've used a couple of times. Don't care for the sprue plate design, seems to give length & weight variation. I've got a piece of aluminum angle to make a replacement. Planning to try casting some relatively soft and paper patching for the .358 Win 99 Savage in the spare time that I don't have.
They're hard to find anymore. Probably 'cause they're all "Perfect"...LOL

"perfect" would be a good description. My two molds don't have an issue with the sprue plates. both cut smooth at the base of the molds.

I'm curious if they were store-brand Lymans with the Herters label added. Designs are close to the Ideal catalogs.

I got one a while back. Worst mould I have ever had, without a doubt. Mine was so far out of round, you could measure it with a Stanley tape measure. The sprue plate gave me fits also. It sounds like you got a couple of good ones. I wasn't so lucky!

dubber123,

what model did you have?

I'm interested in taking it off your hand.

IIRC it was stamped .375-255. I already gave it away. I spent quite a while filing and peening the alignment pin holes, and got it to about .003" or so, but I was so irritated I didn't want it around any more. Even though it was an unused mould, I don't think I paid much for it.

I have two. They both work good. They are both 25 cal pointed GC. As I recall one is about 85gn and the other about 100gn.
$65.00 tyd for both.
I also have a very old Saeco mold in 25 cal pointed. It is in very good shape and casts well. It is a PB not a GC design.
I will ship all three TYD for $105.00

Bullshop,

does the saeco 25 cal mold look like this? And what weight boolit does it cast? I'm interested in the 85gr Herters and the SAECO if its a 120.

Guesser,

I'll have to past on the 41 Colt mold. But I dropped a mention of the mold down in the pistol/revolver section, you may get a taker.

No Sir it looks nothing at all like that. This is the Oldest Saeco mold I have ever seen, not even sure if it says Saeco I just know by the block and mounting design, and sprue plate design that it is Saeco. It is just as pointed as the Herters/Lyman designs.
Weight of the Saeco as I recall is 90gn.
I would rather keep the Herters molds together as a unit.

Bullshop,

Than, I'll take the two Herters than for $65. PM me your address for the money order and I'll get it out to you. I've got a 100 grainer already but two molds of the same weight would just speed production up.

I have one Herters mold. It is a spittin' image of the Lyman 452-374. It is a single cavity and casts well. I have no issues with it and would be more than willing to try my luck with more Herter's molds in the future. The way I see it, they can't be all that bad or else people would be getting rid of them a lot more often.

I had wiljen post the Herters moulds on Castpics, but just now while trying to access the, I get the dreaded red-X. instead of pictures. Thought I was going to do you guys a favor so you could see what the moulds looked like, but maybe not!!...Geo

I bought a Herters mold recently. According to the sprue plate it is a 25111, but it is not that design. Weight and style indicate the 2580, 80 gr model. It casts nicely, the cavity is in good shape. I have noticed that the mold has several small holes and pocks apparently left over after machining. Also no sprue plate screw lock nor stop on top of mold as it is part of the thin sprue plate. A cheaper knock off of 257388. If China was available when these were made, they would have been made there :-P.

The Herters mould I had years ago was identical to a friend's Lachmiller brand mould.

I have a SC Herters 28130. Someone threw it into a deal with some 270 molds. I always assumed it was for 270. When I tried casting with it it became obvious that it was a 7mm mold. Round nose, looks a little bit like 311291.

I don't have a 7mm. I'd be happy to trade it off for something else if someone can use it.
