Well, I found my Ruger Super Blackhawk .44 Mag Hunter Stainless Bisley, and will sending the funds for it tomorrow. The price seemed right -- $589 new -- seems like the pre-owned ones were over priced.

It looks like I'll be deciding on a mold soon. If anyone needs .45 Auto brass and has some extra .44 Mag, I have a post in the swap forum under "Need .44 mag -- have .45 Auto".

I can't wait to get my hands on it!

I have one with the regular grip. Cannot stand bisleys.

I like it so much, its basically the only gun I hunt with anymore. Mine likes the RCBS 44-240-swc gc out of straight wheelweights water dropped. Set them on top of a full dose of Win 296 with Javelina lube and size at .430 Never any leading, but I do get a pretty greasy lube star all over the muzzle.

You will LIKE that gun

Nice catch. I got one of those in a trade once. I like Bisleys but not big on scopes.

Randy,
I've had my SBH Hunter (regular grip) for a month or so now and I'm very pleased with the workmanship on this one. Like you, I looked at the used prices and decided that I would just buy a new one.
I haven't found 'the load' for it yet but I'm playing with the 310 gr Lee bullets with decent results.
I put a scope on it and then decided that I shoot just as well with the irons out to 50 yards.
When I get out to 100 yards the scope will go back on.

I liked the SBH Hunter so well that I decided to get a Single-Six Hunter.
Unfortunately, there don't seem to be any available anywhere.

jhrosier, what caliber is the Single Six Hunter?

I've had a Single Six .22 cal, (which also has the mag cylinder) since I bought it new in 1974. I've put "a million" rounds through it, and it still shoots great.

I can't wait to start using the Blackhawk, and start casting and loading for it. I think I may start with a 310 gr mold, as I think that will be what I'll try hunting with as soon as I can.

...

Randy,

The Single-Six Hunter is .22/.22mag, 7-1/2" barrel.
It is the little brother of the SBH Hunter and has the same style ribbed barrel with the cuts for the scope rings.

Nice looking gun! Mine is blued, but I still get compliments on it. I'm glad that they finally started thinking about scopes for these.

Looking for a mold you say? I'm having great luck with Lyman 429215.

Bisley grips--it seems that lots of guys either love 'em or hate 'em. To me, they are a big improvement for guns that could see heavy loads, though I agree the traditional "plow handle" has better eye appeal, at least to me. I like the scope mounting feature of the SBH Hunter, I can dial in a load with it and then remove it for better portability. I installed a Williams rear sight on mine, along with a firesight for the front. To my eyes this also is an improvement, and makes it easier to hit what I am aiming at.

It sure can be confusing when a post is deleted, and the ones referring to it are not. Makes for some interesting reading.

Jack Yep, and the one I handled a couple years ago didn't have the usual Ruger patridge sights on it either, had a bead & V-notch as I remember...Dennis (Who has a good memory,.....it's just short) :coffee:
