I've got a jug I'd like to use with cast bullets. It is supposed to be the same as AA2700. I'd like to use it in the usual stuff, 30-06, 8mm, 7mm, 7.62x54R, .303 Brit, etc. Thanks

I'll try this; Anyone using AA2700?

I have in the past, in my Garand, unless I used a magnum primer little unburned granules fell into the chamber upon ejection and dented subsequent cases. In fact I was just looking at one of those cases from about 10 years ago. Might not be necessary to use the magnum primers now, I think I read on Accurate's website that they reformulated the powders so that you didn't have to. Or was that on Western's site? Well, if you get some vertical stringing, magnum primers may be worth a try. Oops I'm on the cast forum. I'd be willing to bet it's one of those ball powders that doesn't respond to reduction very well.

I think you're right. I was fishing, hoping for some good news, like somebody else besides me bought this stuff and have found a great CB powder. I've noticed some verticle stringing with what loads I've tried so far but with almost no horizontal dispersion, something I think is a good sign as far as potential accuracy. I'll increase my charges a bit and also try some MRPs. Thanks for the response. I have 8 lbs., gotta find a way to make it work.

Accurate has a couple lead bullet loads with 2700 for the 30/06 on their online guide. 1900 & 2000fps with 180 and 200gr bullets. Those are the start loads!

It looks to me to be a 'go big or go home powder'. I'll keep messing with it, maybe it's just the ticket for my high speed experiments. I know it worked well in my Savage #4 with j----- bullets. Thanks for the info.

Tried a new load in my MN 91/30 7.62x54R. 37.4 gr DP 79 with 1.6cc COW under a 180 gr. Lee GB boolit. Put 6 shots in 2" at 50 yds, no leading or pressure issues apparent. This group was from a halffast rest and issue sights. Don't know the velocity, but I'm guessing 2100 fps. It was ok in my gun, might not be in yours.

You got a 30-30 and an RCBS 30-180FN? If so, start at 31 grains and work up. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

I do have a 30-30 and a couple 180ish molds, like a Saeco #315 and some others. No RCBS. I will definitely give it a shot. Actually, I just remembered I have two 30-30s, a Win 94 and a H&R single shot. Piled up the brass over the years too. Maybe I'm set for some shootin'! Any idea on velocity? Thanks for the tip.

The RCBS 30-180FN drops from the mold at 191-193 grains in clip-on WW metal. It works very well in the Pre-Micro 336s and goes 2100+ fps from 24" barrels when driven by 31 grains of DP-74. 31 grains should be safe in any 30-30 but maybe 30 is a better place to start. I plan on trying 32 grains in the next few weeks.

That sounds like a good hunting load. I'll try the DP 79 in my 30-30s and report back. Thanks.

Looking back at some old info I noticed I may have caused some confusion with that post. For the record, DP74 and DP79 are two different powders. DP79 is the same as AA2700 according to Accurate Powder Co. Apparently I can't edit the old post.

No - but I can, posts corrected to read DP 79 as per original intent.
