Can anyone tell me how long RCBS 308-200-SIL is (please specify with or without gas-check)? I'd also like to know the width of the driving band and the length of the gas-check shank.

Much obliged,
MJ

The oal of the bullet is 1.165 w/o and 1.185 with, the driving band is .145 and the gas check shank is .075. I use this bullet to shoot hp sil. out to 500 meters and is very accurate, even shot a steel target at 985 yds with it, but the group looked to be about 16 inches.

Thanks Steelshooter,

It looks like I don't have enough action length to handle it.

That is a slick looking bullet! I am going to see how the Saeco 301 that casts at about 205 grains does on the 500 meter rams next Saturday. If I hit any! It is about the same size as your RCBS bullet but not as sleek!

The bullet has a taper to it. I have to seat it so just the gas check is in the case neck to touch the lands, and that is in 4 differant rifles.

I purchased one of RCBS molds to make this bullet 10+ years ago. It dropped bullets that were .296" on the nose tapering back to .301" just before the driving bands. The net result was that in my rifle(s) the bore riding portion of the bullet was not supported by the bore diameter and 4+" groups (100 yards) at 2,000 f.p.s. Not good.

In order to get good accuracy, I had to use a bumping die to increase the bore riding portion of the bullet to a straight .302" dia.

Perhaps the current RCBS mold is an improved version of the earlier bullet.

Sounds like a good one to stay away from. I don't need a tapered bullet!
