I'm getting ready to heat treat some WW boolits. They are 338 220gr boolits.

I've sized them and seated the GC's.

The question:

Do I need to stand them up for the heat treat, or can I just lay them down in the pan?

I plan on 425 for 1 hour and then quench in ice water.

Thanks,
AJ

I always stood em up to get the best air flow around em and make sure they dont insulate each other by rolling against each other. Probably makes little difference, but just my thinking on it.

I have never found it to matter.

I like to use one of the metal bowls (colanders??) and just place them in there.

I think the most important issue is to get them from point A to B (oven to water) as quickly as possible.

Thanks guys. I have them standing up, but due to my innate catlike reflexes, I'm sure they won't be standing up when I place them in the oven :groner:

An hour in the oven should insure even temp regardless of position.

Did it, without knocking them over. Dropped them into an ice chest full of ice water. They are cooling now! I'll dry them, lube them, load them and then wait a week or so and see how they shoot.

Thanks guys,
AJ

"lube them, load them and then wait a week "

Lube them, wait a week, then load and shoot.
