Ok, so call it a kick in my complacency..
I've been casting aluminum long enough to think twice about adding metal to a melt before heating it... Well OOOps!
Pulled a brick of lead out of a bucket of scrap and set it on top of to be added. Set a corner in the melt and saw a couple small pops so I laid it on the other brick sitting in the melt. Well the other brick was at the hot-short point and crumbled, and just as I saw that, I saw my pants where I had set the brick down - wet spot!
Luckily I keep a cover handy and caught it shortly after the first good pop so I didn't loose the whole melt, but still, the tinsel fairy came by for a visit..
