Hi everyone. I've found lots of load data for the Russian 7.62X54. But few talk about their CB loads accuracy at 100 yards and beyond. I just got my die set to load for my Finn M39!!
Show off your favorite 100 yard plus loads.
Mold?
Alloy?
Size?
GC?
Lube?
Powder type and charge?
Primer?

My 1968 date M39 did real well with the Lee 185 RN ,WW alloy sized .314 w/GC on top of 30 grs of pulled down CZ 54R light ball powder,I'm sure 4895 would do about the same. Good luck the M39 is a fine shooting rifle when you find what it likes

Here's a sighter target I fired with my SAKO Mod. 28/30 in 2005 @ 100 yds. (My SAKO Mod. 39 is just as accurate). The particulars are:

18.5 grs. WC 820 + WLR primers + weighed Lapua brass

#314299 @ .311" (the Mod. 39 likes .312") and 2.96" OAL

Alloy was WW + 1% Sn, not heat-treated

Lube was Felix Lube

Mike, I remember firing that target, and was very pleased with it. Alas, the rest of the day, i.e., 20 shots for record at 4 more of those targets @ 100 yds., wasn't nearly as good.

All, I meant to say in the original post that both the Mod. 28/30 and Mod. 39 are entirely as issued.

That's good shooting Maven. I know iron sights are hard for me now. I'm not posting my target here cause I shot it with a scoped Finn 39.
Was a healthy charge of 4350 with the 314299 at about 2000 to 2100 fps load. The 28's and 39's really shoot.

i cannot find anyone with the sniper scope mounts for the mn's anymore. the 2 pc copied with the weaver rail. great system. i did several rifles with them. looks like my next scoped mn is a 39 with an sks mount. its a 90 degree side to top with 4 mounting holes but no quick removal .

i shoot both iron and scoped at 100, 200 and the infamous 400 plus irons at the cast boolit meet this yr.

And that's the best one too! Choate with four 4-48 screws. I have a 2.5x8 compact scope on it now, those are old pictures.

I do love my M39. Was basically an unissued rifle since the Finns rebuilt it. Shoots the Czech ball great but really want to see how she will do with the 314299 and maybe my 311291. I need to slug the bore first.

Yesterday I was trying out some different loads in my 1942 B barrel M39 at 50 yards. The winner was a 10 shot group that measured 1.100" (the 8 on top are .618"). The load:

311291 @ .311"
Jake's Scarlet Ceresin lube
30.0 gns IMR 3031
3:1 WW:Lino
WLR primer
2.736" OAL

http://i331.photobucket.com/albums/l449/wolf913/M39grp.jpg

Didn't chrono this load yet, but I believe it's close to 2,000 fps. Haven't shot it at 100 yds. Thats a tall order for me with iron sights. I may be mounting a scout scope before long.

Here's mine: Lyman 314299 over top 40 grains of Accurate 4350 with a filler. Velocity was between 2000 - 2100 fps. It's the hole at the top which is ten shots. The other five were some surplus powder rounds I have left.

Rugerfan, that is some good shooting. Are you planning on trying that at a longer distance?
StarMetal, nice group as well. What did you size those 314299s? Lube type, filler type?

Thanks....I sized them with a .313 sizer and they end up at .314. The lube is mine 50/50 ivory soap and beeswax with some Castor oil. I use poly for a filler.

Dang, I missed your reply. Sorry this took so long. With my eyes I probably need a scope for 100 yd shooting. I may use this rifle for hunting next year if I can find a scope mount I like. I'll report on how it goes.

Don't know who made the scope or the mount, took a chance buying a pig in a poke, but it worked out, think they call this scope the PO scope, easier to adjust than the older pu.
What the heck, I have fun with it.
