After 14 years together. Lots of good stories and memories. He was a "Puppy" till his last breath and I held him as he went. I know he was an animal, but human emotions say otherwise. One story I'd like to share is from a few years ago. I had bought a bag of salted minnows for a day of fishing during the week. I left them on the counter in the shopping bag. Stepped out for a spell and upon my return found the bag shredded with minnows everywhere!! My dog greeted me at the door with his tongue dragging and panting. The two of us failed to notice that his water bowl was empty before I left and it was July!! To this day I've never heard another dog make such a swoosh sucking sound as he inhaled a fresh cold bowl of water!!!! Thanks for reading my post. Moving forward and staying strong.......

I've been there and the only thing I can say is that I'm sorry you lost your buddy. They aren't human but they leave a big hole in our lives when they're gone.

Had to do that September 8th last year. It hurt like hell, Bud was just shy of seventeen, real old for a fifty plus pound dog! I told myself that was the last one I could stand to lose. But after over a year and a tip from my niece about a dog in foster care that needed a new home I went and adopted her last Friday. I don't know why she was abandoned, ( owners walked away from their mortgage, left her behind, a lot of this here ) she's well behaved & house broke. I don't mean to hijack this thread but to tell you that while you will never replace the one you lost, there are others out there that will help fill the void and you will grow just as close to them in their own way.

Wallenba, You're absolutely right. They're all different as we are. I've been through a few and will remember all of them. I smile often about the good and funny times that I had with them. Give it some time and another one will find you. You don't pick them you know... they pick you.

We lost two of our dogs in April of this year. Toughest thing I've been through. Everytime I see a little Yorkie it gets me right in the heart. They are the first thing we see when we get up in the morning and the last thing when we go to bed. Sorry for your loss man, I know its tough. Tom

Golly do I understand! Lost two 14 year old Malamute/Husky puppies several years ago and a snuggle bum cat who acted like a dog on 8/21/09. Hurts to lose a member of the family!

Condolences for your loss.

Thanks for the heart felt sympathies everybody. It means alot. I drove him out to the country yesterday to have him buried with our other dog who passed six years ago. There's a nice spot in the woods just down aways on the tractor path. Giant boulder marks the spot. I've sat there during deer season and it's nice and quiet. Both them dogs sure loved the woods.

Been down this road and its a very tough one.

In our house here just in the last 3 weeks we also lost the alpha dog, a 150 lb German Shepard named Rocky. Cancer. Very tough call for my daughter and son-in-law.

Dogs are not animals.

dog = god

You are not alone in your loss, my friend. God surely blessed us when He gave us dogs.

I share in your loss and you have my deepest sympathy. My wife and I just had to put our Sheltie Aggie down about 4 weeks ago. She had Lymphoma cancer and we treated her with chemotherapy for about a year before it came back to claim her life.
The wife and I were walking our new Sheltie pup along the Erie canal today and I picked up a square flat piece of Medina red sandstone. I'm going to try and grind her name and dates into it for her marker. I think dogs make us better people.

At times like these I'm always reminded of the Twilight Zone episode wherre the old man drowns trying to save his coon dog from being drown by a coon. The sly one tries to tempt the old man into "The Pit" but he won't go when he asks if his dog can come too and the answer is no. Up the way a bit of course is the real gate and of course his dog is welcome. I look forward to a reunion with my old friends on that day. And if on asking of them at the gate I'm told they aren't there, I know to just keep moving on as I don't want to be anywhere my dogs ain't welcome.

God gives us the animals to enrichen our lives, it sounds like your dog fullfilled his job! Of all the animals in our lives I think that dogs are the most loyal and true companions man has ever had. We are blessed to have them! Having lost many myself I feel your pain, keep the faith in the knowlege that you enrichened each others lives.
