Decided to just jump in and try my hand at casting so I ordered the following Lee molds:

Lee 2-Cavity Bullet Mold C501-440-RF 500 S&W
Lee 2-Cavity Bullet Mold C430-310-RF 44 Special, 44 Remington Magnum, 44-40 WCF (430 Diameter) 310 Grain Flat Nose Gas Check

Which top punches should I order for the RCBS Lube A Matic?

Gonna take a stab and size the .500's at .501 and the .44's at .430

To my knowledge Lee doesn't publish a list of compatible top punches for their bullet designs. What I normally do is find a Lyman or RCBS design that's as close to the Lee mold as possible and buy the top punch for it. Perhaps someone on the board has made a list or can give you specific guidance for your chosen molds.

PM "Buckshot". He make a "kit" so that you can custom fit the punches to the boolit. For the Lee 501 I use the RCBS #112-318. If you cast 18BHN or harder you can use a "flat" punch as the boolit should not distort (unless you are sizing an excessive amount).

Thanks for the info but RCBS shows all there top punches have a 3 digit number. I looked through there web site and can not find any numbered with 112 or 318. Any help is appreciated

These are flat point moulds, I would just use a top punch that is flat. ther one that has a bug flat area or completely flat.

Sorry Snowwolf,
That is the Midway Prt # - It is the top punch for the 405gr 45/70 boolit RCBS #611.

I took a 421 punch & filled it with hot glue to the "flat" eventually got to my fil lathe & made a real flat 1 though.

i even made 1 out of a 1/4" bolt , ground it down round & a dab of lube to stik it to the ram & away i went sizin 358 swc.

it does take a little effort to line the boolit up a little better than having the correct punch though.
