It's a few years since I made this, and about two and a half since I used it. Its just a large piece of pipe, the bottom is a piece of stainless, bottom pour. But since I joined the forum I got fired up from see the other smeltes post here so I went out and fired up mine and melted down about 150 lbs of w/weights into ingots over two days.

Here you can see the gas flame.

Use propane and 2 to 3 lbs of compressed air makes a very hot flame.

From seeing the others , I will be making a few changes to this one in the near future.

Fine looking smelter Dragonrider.

I've been making due for 19-20 with an old fish cooker and a large cast iron pot. I do wish I had the tools handy to make one much along the lines of yours or some of the others I've seen here.

Paul,

Looks good to me. I like the way you have it sheltered from the wind. Is that in the basement or a shed? Is the gas piping come up through the ground from air and fuel sources in another room? It looks like it works great as a smelting pot and I like you've designed it as a bottom pour, to keep your ingot material as clean as possible.

What do you use for an ingot mold?

Looks great,

Dave

It is in one of the double car tents. the fuel source is about ten feet away, and I use Lee ingot molds, have two of them, while one cools I fill the other.
