Enclosed are targets from my 6.5 Jap carbine 16 in barrel. with Tasco 2.5 x scope.I used the long awaited Lee 6.5 Swed mold. I shot with 14 grains 4759 (no filler or wad) or GC. The gun was my first deer rifle my da "sporterized it. Mold was worth the wait 50 yr target

I like shooting these old rifles! I like watching the whole head disappear into the chamber, knowing there's no unsupported case. I swage my brass down from .308 Win (7.62NATO) or make them from .303 British or 30/40. I get a better fit than the imported stuff, especially with the GI 7.62 cases where I stop the head at .4575". What alloy are you using with your bullets, what's your bore slug?

..... no GC Velocity about 1500fps .....

That proves a lot to me.

.............Those long 6.5mm cast boolits carry well. Many moons ago our range held 200 meter sanctioned silhuette matches. I'm not a student of silhuette so I don't know what type was, except most the registered competitors were using Contenders and such. For us unwashed unregistered and 'unclassified' folks who just wanted to "Clang Steel" they had what they called Cowboy class and this was before Cowboy Action was around. It didn't count for anything except getting your name in the club's monthly newsletter if you won the class.

It was $5 to shoot through. I generally shot 4 rifles going through 4 times. A 1903A1 Springfield 30-06, M98/08 7x57 Brazilian Mauser, a 1893 Marlin 30-30, and a 1896 Swede 6.5x55. I had a card with the sight settings and load for each one. The loads:

30-06: Ly 311284 (217gr), 23.0 H4198 + dacron = 1630 fps
7x57: RCBS 7mm-162 (172gr), 42.0grs surp WC860 + dacron = 1775 fps
30-30: Lee C309-160R (158gr), 23.0 H4198 + dacron = 1750 fps
6.5x55: Ly 268645 (154gr), 35.0 surp WC872 + dacron = 1550 fps

With the Swede I only had to make one sight adjustment, and altered my hold otherwise. At that velocity the boolit easily fetched the 200 meter ram.

Off the subject but I have to add that there was usually 3 or 4 of us who'd shoot through as a group. I recall these very few short years very fondly as they were simply great pals, and it was all just for the pure joy of shooting and clanging the targets over. Two of them have passed on to the great range in the sky in the past few years. Freeman was one's name and he'd been a Major in the Army during WWII, detailed Intelligence and chased German electronics all over Europe. One of the most intelligent humans I've ever met.

I used to really give him gas as I'd shoot the 4 rifles and then turn in the one with the highest score. He'd get all excited every time and insist that I had to declare at the beginning which rifle I was going to turn in for score. I'd laugh and tell him (in all innocence) it was impossible to do that because how in the world was I supposed to know beforehand which one I was going to shoot the best? HA! It was the same each month :-) He was a fine man.

Lyman #2 alloy Gun slugs to .268

Thanks shooter, I was interested mostly in the slugging, seems a lot of these rifles are around .268. I had one that was .2675", got rid of that one, but have 3 more to slug sometime.
