I have been looking for someone to swap my straight 1984 marlin stock for a pistol grip stock, lever and trigger plate also. Is there anything else I would need to change? Anyone want to try a straight stock? Any input regarding doing this swap? Should be straight up swap, right.

Think that's all you have to change. I looked at that several years ago but never found anyone to swap with./beagle

You need to find someone who wants a quick pointing scrub gun. I've got a few, but I'mm too far away and I'm hanging onto mine. Have you investigated how much second hand or new parts would be, Numrich Arms or whatever they call themselves might be the go.

It might be worth contacting Marlin for a quoe. Might be easier in the long run, might'nt be as expensive as you imagined.

I had mine done at Marlin and had them change the barrel to octagon in 38spl.

That is a bit of a hybrid now Doc, Sort of a modern cowboy.

Doc Highwall can I inquire as to a round figure of expense. I'd actually like an octagonal barrel but figured that was definetly out!

I think it was about $450.00 which also included re-stamping the S/N on the side of the receiver so I could drill and tap the tang for a tang sight. I do not know if they will still do this now that Remington has bought them.

Did they slick up the action to bring it up to cowboy specs?

I like to do my own action jobs on the Marlins as it makes it a non cost job, just enjoying doing it my self and sparing no short cuts.

I appreciate that, but they advertise the cowboys as being competition ready, I'm thinking that if they stamped it as a Cowboy, they would have probably slicked her up to normal cowboy specs.

This gun was made in the 70's and has no cross bolt safety and I wanted to make it look like a higher grade factory gun with the pistol grip and tang sight. I had Marlin put the barrel on because of the ballard rifling and I wanted to shoot 38spl only. Here is a 1897 Cowboy that I made a special scope mount for to keep the old style look.

I like that scope set up it looks really good, and way more natural on an 1894 than one of the new scopes
