After 6 months of waiting, it's time. We leave for our boar hunt tomorrow. The wife is all set and ready. She'll be using an NEF single in 45-70. 500 gr lee RNFP-GC's, cast up hard, sized .458 with Lars Carnuba Red, over a charge of IMR 4198 for ~1475 at the muzzle.

I'll be running the video camera on this one. This will be my wifes first hunt ever.

We'll be heading up to Fairlee VT to Wild Hill Preserve.

Pics (and bacon) on Sunday if all goes well.

Good pig. 1st shot was perfect, pig went 15-20 yards, she put an anchoring shot double shoulders and took it right off it's feet. 10 seconds (on the video camera) from 1st to second shot. Pig was dead before we got to it.

Unloading meat and gear now. More later....

WOOOHOOOO!!!

We're unpacked and amazed at how full the freezer is. One of the hams is 14lbs. Some really nice roasts and 2 BIG slabs of bacon. Headed to the smoke house soon.

I was very impressed. Only part of the hunt that could have been better was if the camera guy(me) was paying better attention. First shot the pig took off about 15 yards and stopped, turned and looked at us, I was busy pulling my pistol (the camera has a real nice shot of the forest floor for a few seconds  ) and didn't notice she had the second shot loaded and lined up. The video was worth it though. It's nice to see how fast it all really happens.

45-70 performed just like it should. Made craters in dirt behind and made for a nice clean kill. Don't think that pig let out even two cups of blood. Was dead on the hoof and teetering when she put the anchoring shot. With the disconnected pump station on the first shot I expect the meat to be very good.

I'm so proud. Taught her everything she knows, my claim to fame. :bigsmyl2:

"The 45-70 performed just like it should" Sounds like your wife didn't do bad either. 2 deadly shots in seconds with the pig deciding not to run. Good on her. Ron.D
