I have a K-31 that has already had permanent alterations done to it with the addition of Parker Hale sights added and D&T for scope mounts. Since I am not afraid of further changes I would like to put a front sling swivel on it that attaches to the bottom of the forend. I have tried and can not get comfortable using a sling with it pulling the way it does with the sling attached to the side of the gun. Anyone have a suggestion on how to attach a front swivel nice and sturdy to the bottom of the forend?

Thanks,

Bob S

Substitute the lower band from a Gew 1911, 96/11 or 1889 for the carbine band. Perfect fit and puts the sling swivel on the bottom. This is now an allowable substitution in the 2009 CMP rules, so the supply of rifle bands may be getting thin. Numrich used to have them, but I have not checked in a few years.

Gew 1911 lower band on a K31:

I've used the side mount very successfully for years, but if you try to put a twist in it like you would a bottom-mounted sling, you're doomed.

Thank you Bob! They still had the band at Numrich ($7.45 plus shipping) and I have one coming.

I went and looked at an older post on the National Match Board, as someone asked the same question and I gave the same answer ... Your band may come without the screw, and apparently Numrich is out of screws. (all of mine came with screws, but that was many years ago). The screws for the 1889 and 1911 bands are different sizes, but other than that, the bands are the same. The guy on the NM board said he got an M4 x .75 screw at the hardware store, and it worked.

Thanks for the heads up there. If it does not come with a screw I will know now what to get.

One one of mine I drilled out the screw holding together at the bottom and mounted my sling stud to that. (sorry no pics gun went by-by)
